What is the Garage Attic? It's the second floor you need in your garage!\n\nI've noticed that most garages have unusually high ceilings because they're built on crawl spaces. The remedy for this is the Garage Attic. I frame massive storage lofts above the garage door tracks that can add up to 300 square feet of storage space to your garage. On some projects I've been able to frame a staircase to the new loft from the existing platform to the house, on some I've installed drop down stairs and on others the homeowner uses a ladder to access the loft.\n\nEvery garage is different and if the garage has enough depth I'll simply build custom shelves on the back wall using cabinet grade plywood. The goal is to get your car into the garage where it belongs and to be able to walk around it.

I bring years of hands-on experience managing trades and remodeling homes, with a focus on\nreliability, clear communication, and quality results. I’ve overseen projects ranging from small\nrepairs to full renovations, coordinating electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, and other\nskilled trades to keep projects on schedule and done right the first time. My strength is organization\nand follow-through. I show up when I say I will, communicate clearly, and treat every home with\nrespect. Remodeling can be stressful, especially when surprises come up, but I approach each\nproject with transparency and problem-solving in mind. When challenges arise, I explain options\nclearly and help homeowners make informed decisions. I understand how disruptive construction\ncan be, so I work cleanly, stay involved from start to finish, and make sure expectations are aligned.\nMy goal is simple: deliver professional results while making the process as smooth and stress-free\nas possible. The most common garage door material is aluminum, but the best material for you depends on your budget and location. Wood is the most expensive to repair but tends to add the most curb appeal, while fiberglass or composite doors cost less to fix.

Aluminum won’t rust, so it’s a great option if you live somewhere humid or rainy. Steel doors are durable but are prone to rust. If you live somewhere with extreme temperatures, hot or cold, you might opt for fiberglass, which won’t split if the temperatures skyrocket or drop below freezing.

If you also have a standard door leading to your garage, install a robust deadbolt lock and reinforce the frame with security plates. Then, secure any windows with shatterproof glass or film to deter break-ins. Consider a smart garage door opener for your car entrance, enabling remote monitoring and control through your smartphone. Motion-activated lighting around the garage to deter intruders is a great way to amplify these security efforts. Lastly, educate your family on security practices, such as keeping the garage entrances closed and locked.

We recommend plywood and solid wood. Particleboard and MDF (medium-density fiberboard) are often too weak to hold significant loads, and could sag or deform under pressure. Plywood or solid wood are meant to last, and can handle the weight of several large items. If you want to spend a little more for a moisture-resistant material, you can consider using steel.

Adequate storage, workspaces, and energy-efficient systems are key considerations.

The average cost to install a new garage door is around $1,224, with most homeowners paying between $755 and $1,696. However, the total price can range from $250 to as high as $4,500 depending on several factors. Key cost drivers include the door's size, type, style, and material. For instance, wood or wood composite doors are typically more expensive than vinyl or aluminum options. Insulation also affects the price. Labor costs are often bundled into the total price, but if billed separately, can range from $200 to $500. Due to the complexity and danger, professional installation is recommended.
