"Local Handyman NC Mr. Robert Batchelor came and trimmed 9 bushes, cleaned up debris in my courtyard. He then proceeded and spread some new black mulch in flower bed. Very satisfied with Mr. Batchelor. He was very prompt, reasonable in his pricing. Exceedingly courteous and worked hard in the excessive heat aiming to please. Highly recommend you will not be disappointed. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed."

"This is a late review.

Approximately January 2013 timeframe, I received quotes from 2 Handy-Man companies that I found on this site. The job entailed the removal of four sets of double doors (8 doors) and replacing them with two set of four windows (8 windows). They told me the job would take one week. Their prices were in line with each other, and were approximately $7,500.00. I thought this too high and decided to wait.

In April, I decided to find a carpenter, since it is carpentry, and get the job done. Again, I went to the list and decided to call Bergen Contracting and Repair Inc for a quote. I called and got the company answering machine and left a message. Pete Bergan called me that evening and we set a time for the estimate. He arrived early and we looked at the project. He measured, photographed and asked numerous questions; What type of windows, did I want him to match siding, match outside and inside paints, etc. I also asked make two other minor repairs for me. The estimate was approximately $4900.00. The work was performed in  2.5 days; 2 sets of double doors per day. and each set of new windows were 'dried-in' the day that set of 4 doors was removed. The carpenters (2) were absolutely excellent. I watched them periodically and their attention to detail was great. Ismael and his partner were prompt, courteous and 'worker bees'. It was a job quite well done.  Mr Bergen came out to inspect the job and the completed product. He only accepted payment AFTER COMPLETION. No upfront deposit. I was impressed.

I am particular about the work done since those windows are on the lakeside of the house and provide the view from the master BR and the living room.  I will Bergen Contracting and Repair Inc. again, and I strongly recommend him."

"Ben did a wonderful job matching our existing cabinets and hardware from about 10 years prior. He was fast, professional, and knowledgeable. The cost was right on par with competitors, even a little lower than some. I’m very pleased with the end results. He also patched the holes created from moving some existing cabinets to their new location. The wall we converted into cabinets required electrical to be moved and he was able to do that without incurring the cost of an electrician. I would absolutely use him again for another project."

Doors questions, answered by experts

This hack required some hand strength. First, bend the fork's tines. Next, slip the pointed ends into the door latch and close the door. Open the door to remove the fork and break off the fork's handle. Reinsert the fork's head into the door latch and close the door. Finally, slide the fork's handle through the tines, creating a horizontal barrier that prevents the door from opening inward.

To move a couch through a narrow doorway, first measure the couch and the doorway to ensure it will fit. For a close fit, you can create more space by removing the interior door; tap out the hinge pins with a nail and shift the door sideways to remove it from its hinges. You may need to turn the couch on its side or move it in separate pieces, if possible. Using furniture sliders can also help you slide the couch through the doorway.

Sometimes, these two terms are used interchangeably, but they are separate parts of a door, and each serves a different function. The sill helps ensure the doorframe is secure, and the threshold helps protect the sill and direct water away from the door to prevent leaks.

Depending on the type of French doors you choose, they may be more expensive than sliding doors. Generally speaking, a single in-swing or out-swing French door will cost less than a sliding door, as it contains fewer materials and is easier to install. However, sliding doors usually have a slightly lower price tag, especially when compared to the standard double in-swing or double out-swing French doors.

Yes, doggie doors, like all entrances, can let both hot and cold air into your home. However, as with any door in your house, you can take steps to weather-strip your pet's entrance to prevent air leaks.
