"My home has a chimney that was unsafe to use (cracked masonry liner). I dreaded the time and cost of a tear down and replacement. I contacted "Shamrock Chimney" and scheduled an appointment with their lead technician "Tony". He suggested a less costly and safer alternative (steel liner and a resealing of the outer brickwork. The work was performed over a two-day period. I am fully satisfied with the results. One thing I really apricate is the communication during the project. The "front office" would let me know by either phone or email when the project would start, and then Tony and would give me updates. All and all the whole process went smoothly. Also, this was my first time with "Angi", I hope to use their services again in the future."

"BSCS offered us an opportunity to have our chimneys inspected and cleaned just as the winter season was winding. Hunter has the demeanor of a much older and seasoned person and his work is reflected in his demeanor. He inspected our two fireplaces and then cleaned out both. He was meticulous in laying out protective floor coverings. Both chimneys were cleaned and furniture repositioned afterwards. There was absolutely no spillage onto the floors and it was done in record time for a reasonable price. As he was collecting his gear he mentioned he also cleaned Dryer vents. We believed our dryer needed cleaning and while setting up the dryer discovered the connection to the dryer had come loose and was blowing all residue back into the laundry room. Hunter carefully cleaned and firmly reattached the hose. We are now big fans of Blacksheep and asked him to come annually to inspect our chimneys and dryer exhaust. Thank you Blacksheep."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

As with any smoking appliance, a smoking oven is a concerning fire risk. It also negatively impacts your indoor air quality, which can put vulnerable people at risk of breathing problems. A dirty oven can catch fire if you don’t stay on top of regular maintenance, so remember to check your oven for signs that it’s time for a cleaning and remove buildup every three months to stay on the safe side.

Yes, a seller is legally required to disclose any known fire damage when selling a house, including damages that were repaired. That includes damages to structural components and all major systems, as well as water damage, chemical damage, and smoke damage related to the fire. Sellers use a property disclosure statement, which is regulated by each state individually, to disclose fire damage.

If untreated, smoke damage is definitely toxic. Carbon and tar are two types of toxic chemicals in smoke that can damage your lungs and other parts of your body if you breathe them in for long periods of time. If you still smell smoke after the fire, it’s important that you call your restoration team for support.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

Repairing a fire-damaged home could cost anywhere from $2,000 to $200,000 or more—it all depends on the extent of the damage and the quality of the materials you use. In most cases, your homeowner’s insurance company will cover the majority of the repairs. If you’re buying a home with fire damage, though, it’s best to get an estimate from a fire damage restoration company to estimate the repairs before closing.
