Small jobs welcome

"Jason went the extra mile, literally, to repair our siding. He had to Elizabeth City to get a matching piece for us. His cost was reasonable and he was prompt. I would highly recommend Jason!"

"Totally happy with this experience! Miguel is a professional and nice to work with! I will hire him again!!! My project was small, I knew I needed a carpenter and had not had any luck finding one. Miguel’s crew knew what they were doing, were professional and efficient! This was a good experience!! We had an interior antique window installed in an opening in a wall. We also needed trim to close the gap under a new dishwasher. Both projects turned out great!!"

"Coastline Property Services tackled the overgrowth at my property and created a beautiful landscape. I will be hiring this company in the near future for other projects.. I added the two photos from before they started. It looks like an entirely different house. Great job!!"

"Started out with kitchen remodel, new flooring throughout the house and new shingles on one side of house. Added new doors and trim, new baseboards and window trim. Also had them get rid of popcorn ceilings. They did a fantastic job. The price was less than I anticipated. Hal and his crew are a good bunch to work with. Will definitely call them for future projects."

Siding questions, answered by experts

The best type of paint for vinyl siding is a high-quality acrylic latex paint, often labeled as '100% acrylic.' This type of paint is lightweight and adheres well to the vinyl surface, which reduces the likelihood of it peeling or flaking. For best results, apply two coats and avoid using thick paint. The color choice is also important; select a light color to prevent the paint from absorbing excess heat, which helps extend the durability of your paint job.

If you have stucco on the outside of your home, it’s technically considered cladding and not siding, but beyond that, it’s impossible to tell without a little digging. Without damaging the siding material, expose part of it to see if there’s an air gap between the siding and your exterior wall. If there is, you have cladding. If the siding is affixed directly to the exterior wall, you have a simple siding system.

Yes, you can install siding over stucco, but it's crucial to ensure the stucco is in good condition first. Before proceeding, inspect the stucco for any signs of damage, leaks, or mold growth. If you discover water damage, mold, or have ongoing leak issues, it's recommended to remove the stucco completely. This step prevents future problems like mold and pest infestations and allows a professional to repair or replace any damaged sheathing underneath. If the stucco is sound, the installation process involves attaching furring strips to the wall's framing directly through the stucco. The new siding is then installed onto these furring strips. A professional may also need to adjust window and door openings to prevent them from being recessed behind the new siding, which can cause aesthetic issues and create potential leak points.

If you buy new cedar, the process of cutting it usually roughs up the surface enough that it doesn’t require sanding. However, if you buy older cedar or you’re repurposing it from another application, it’s a good idea to sand it. This helps the stain settle into the grain, and results in a more uniform appearance.

If you’re wondering how to clean clapboard siding, the approach depends on its material and condition. Siding in good shape may need only light soap and spray from the hose, while older siding often requires more thorough treatment. For serious cleaning, power washing can remove caked-on dirt, but you should consider hiring a professional to avoid causing damage in the process.
