"Byron was a true professional. Kind and very knowledgeable concerning my electrical issue I was experiencing. He quickly diagnosed the problem and offered a solution. He told me up front the price I was looking at paying for the repair and I was happy with that amount. Quick, friendly, and reliable. Traits not too often found in today’s society. I will definitely be recommending this company to my neighbors and if I have another issue arise, I will definitely contact Byron. Eric Shedd"

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. "He received the notice early on Saturday morning and called within an hour. He was at my house to get the estimate done an hour after that. We agreed to have the install done the following Friday to give him time to get the permits done. He and his son we exactly on time and the price was actually lower than I anticipated. A totally professional job. This guy is on my list for my next electrical job."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The best place to put an electrical outlet depends on your needs. A good rule of thumb is to install outlets every 6 feet in large rooms. Hallways over 10 feet long need one electrical outlet minimum.

If you find yourself needing extra plug-ins for all of your gadgets, you may want to increase the number of electrical outlets in your room. When adding outlets, keep in mind that older homes could have outdated electrical panels. In these cases, you may need a pro to upgrade you from 100-amp to 200-amp service before increasing the power load.

The key difference between a circuit breaker versus a surge protector is that circuit breakers shield your entire electrical system from overcurrents and faults, while surge protectors defend your electronic devices against voltage surges and spikes. A circuit breaker interrupts the flow of electricity in a circuit when it detects an overload or short circuit, protecting the wiring from damage and preventing fires. In contrast, a surge protector shields electronic devices from voltage spikes, such as those caused by lightning strikes or power surges, preventing damage to the device’s inner mechanics.

Yes, a bad switch can cause other outlets not to work. If the switch is part of a circuit that controls multiple outlets, a fault in the switch can disrupt the entire circuit. It can happen if the switch is wired incorrectly, has a loose connection, or is damaged. Fixing or replacing the faulty switch can often restore power to the affected outlets

Yes. Even when it’s not in use, an outlet is still connected to wiring, and if the wiring is faulty or wet, a fire can occur. Broken outlets can also cause fires, for the same reasons; in fact, most broken outlets are broken due to damaged or worn-out wiring. It’s worth replacing outlets that are old or damaged with the help of an electrician.

No. Blue wires and black wires are different. Even though both are used as hot wires, they serve different functions. Black wires are far more common in residential properties. They are always hot, can be positive or negative, and usually carry electricity from a power source to an outlet. Blue wires have a specialized usage in residential properties, generally as traveler wires, and are more common in commercial properties.
