"I went with them because they were highly rated and significantly cheaper. I’d do it again. A couple of minor missteps because of communications which could be taken care of by a decent outline of expectations. They put the customer in charge of draining and filling pool. I’ve had liner pools for 40 years and replaced at least 4 liners but I worried over what could happen if I drained the pool too early and was told to drain it dry (that doesn’t really happen). I was also told to fill the pool while it had wrinkles I worried but they were right. There were a few things in between that they could have been headed of with a decent outline of expectations. Overall I’m very happy but it was some unnecessary worry on my part. I would be happy to help them develop outline if they’re interested."

"After having a horrific experience with a previous pool person I found shark pools. Owner called me immediately upon my inquiry and came out to assess the situation asap. Joe knew exactly what would be needed and put my pool back together with a new beautiful liner. I’m beyond pleased!! I’m so thrilled I found them!!"

"Arthur called me within 10 minutes of putting in my request on Angie's List. He was able to schedule service for the next day, and completed the work quickly and thoroughly. Then he offered to pressure wash another part of the house that wasn't in the original agreement. Though it was a little expensive for the time it took to do it, the promptness, quality, and extra service made it well worth it. I'm planning to hire this company again."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

If you don’t clean your hot tub filters, they’ll build up dirt and grime, preventing them from filtering out contaminants like dirt and bacteria. The dirty water will then circulate through the filter and back into the hot tub, leading to dirty water, a damaged pump and jets, and low heat. This can lead to higher hot tub costs because you may have to pay for repairs.

Follow these general safety tips for spas and hot tubs:

  • Keep your exterior electrical receptacles covered and dry, especially around your hot tub and pool during periods of use.

  • Make sure you have a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) properly installed to ensure no one gets accidentally shocked or injured by electrocution.

  • Don’t use the hot tub or your pool during a thunderstorm.

  • Before using the hot tub, have a certified electrician thoroughly inspect your hot tub and its wiring to make sure you’re in full compliance with all applicable local building codes.

Yes, hot tubs can use a significant amount of electricity, primarily to keep the water heated. A typical hot tub uses between 1,500 and 6,000 watts, and the pump can add another 1,500 watts. This usage can result in a monthly cost of around $20 to $30. The exact amount of electricity consumed depends on several factors, including the hot tub's age, size, heater voltage (120V vs. 240V), usage habits, and thermostat setting. Newer, energy-efficient models generally use less power than older ones. To reduce electricity costs, consider investing in an energy-efficient model, using a quality insulated cover with a thermal blanket, and keeping the filters clean.

If water is left inside the hot tub pump over a cold winter, it could freeze and severely damage the pump, water lines, and jets. That can cause leaks, which require very expensive repairs. Freezing or leftover water can stain and damage the hot tub shell, which leads to replacement. Even in mild climates, leaving sitting water in the tub or pipes for a long period of unuse is a bad idea, since disinfecting chemicals fade and the water can develop bacteria, algae, and other big headaches when it’s time to use the tub again.

Yes. If you test the water and the alkalinity is too low, you can raise it by adding an alkalinity increaser, which likely came with your hot tub’s chemical kit. In a pinch, you can use baking soda to raise the hot tub’s alkalinity. Raising the alkalinity will prevent the hot tub water from becoming too acidic.
