"The workers from West Shore were very friendly, efficient and professional! In addition, they were very courteous and very respectful of our home, covering our wood floors and carpets with tarps and leaving everything clean and in place when they were finished with the job. We would give them a "10" if we could! We had a shower replaced in one bathroom and a bathtub and shower replaced in another. We are thrilled with both jobs! The bathrooms looks beautiful and the work exceeded our expectations!!!"

"We've used Murphy Construction for 3 years now, on 2 different homes. Everything has been done top notch from complete remodels of garage, home office, flooring, aligning doors, replacing hardware, bathroom remodel, bathroom tiling, kitchen tiling, to roof, doors, outdoor trench and pipe, drywall, painting, electrical, plumbing. What can't they do? Far as I can tell, they can do it all. Estimates are competitive. This is a family business, everyone is easy to deal with, pleasant folks, reliable, and trustworthy. Thomas Murphy has tackled everything for us from huge headache jobs to small niggling projects that we, as homeowners just don't have the experience to do. Can't recommend them enough."

"
  1. Went great.  Corky came by after I called and gave me a quote on the project - replacing a small kitchen floor from wood to tile.  He went over all the details of how long it would take/thinset and grout drying times etc. The work started at the scheduled time and they found that the spot was still wet once they took up the old floor, so had a small delay, to let the spot dry.  I totally agreed with so no mold would form from tiling over a wet patch.  Once the tile was laid, the cabinet above the fridge had to be cut back and they did it all in a timely and professional manner.

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Updating to modern styles and efficient models can enhance bathroom appeal and increase property value.

You should consider replacing your bathtub if the tub—or any potential refinishing—is older than about 20 years old. However, acrylic and fiberglass bathtubs have a shorter lifespan (about 10 to 15 years). You may decide to replace your bathtub sooner if there are stains or mold you can’t get rid of, no matter how much you clean it, or if you find leaks and cracks that could lead to costly water damage.

A professional bathtub installation or replacement typically takes one to three days, depending on the project's complexity and any necessary alterations. If you hire a professional, most replacements can be completed in one to three days. However, if you choose the DIY route, the process could take up to a month, as it involves removing the old tub and drywall, installing the new tub, repairing the drywall, and installing new tiling.

There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:

  • Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.

  • Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.

  • Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.

  • Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.

  • DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.

  • Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.

The most common type of tub is the alcove; most bathtubs are shower and tub combinations. Many suburban homes feature these as the default option because they allow the flexibility for users to take a bath or a shower—a notable benefit for those with pets and young kids.
