We did not end up using them to do the work -- just paid for an evaluation. However they were very professional and spot on about the scope of our project.

My Sister had a leak that flooded her pump house / Storage shed and I told her to call this Company . That is why I feel obligated to leave this review. Someone came out and told her that she needed a whole new system that the leak couldn't be fixed. I'm an HVAC Service tech. So I know all about upselling. At any rate I doubted that diagnosis. I was able to get her to only buy the water softener softener since they said that was the problem. They came the next day and installed it. Then the next morning the whole shed was flooded again. So, she was scammed by this company. You can recommend changing a system because of age or whatever reason but don't lie just to sell equipment. Especially if it's not going to even fix the problem. You got caught plain and simple. Anyway, they came right out and fixed the leak. A loose pipe! I wish i had just gone and fixed it and not recommended Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. It's a nice Water Softener though. Cost was twice as much as you can buy one for but it is what it is. Make sure you get another " reputable" company to diagnose your problem before making a decision.

Arrived barely within the 4 hour window, said all work was done under schedule (ca. $200 for my work, with my faucet) and nothing was charged by the hour. Would not check with anyone about the offer I had made on the phone. So I could have a "complete plumbing inspection" for my one hour or nothing. Chose nothing and sent him home.

He came on a very cold day, and tried to reach the leak from within inside to fix the leak. He tore open my wall to reach the leak, but he could not reach it. He ended up reaching the problem from outside in the cold, and did a great job and solved the problem. He knows his craft well. However, he did not reimburse me for the hole in my wall in my bathroom, I ended up having to pay for that myself. That was the only negative in the whole experience.

I woke up to find water gushing out near my foundation. As it was a Sunday morning, I had trouble getting a plumber on the phone. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbers, Wilmington, NC, and was told a tech would be there in less than an hour. An hour and a half later, the tech shows up. He explains that the off hours rate is $99.00, and that they charge by the job, not the hour. He explains that the rate to fix a yard leak is $579.00. I agree to pay, as I did not know the extent of the damage. It turns out that a brass fitting broke, and it took two minutes to dig it out and less than fifteen minutes to fix. There was no sliding scale, and I was told that if more of the yard needed to be dug up, the price would be the same. After trying to up-sell me a annual contract. he tells me that he had an on line coupon for $40.00 that he could apply to my bill. The final bill for less than 30 minutes work was $638.00 I feel embarrassed and completely taken advantage of. I will never use Benjamin Franklin Plumbers EVER, and I will warn other people who need plumbing work to shop around and use anybody else. Shame on them, and shame on me for falling for their bait and switch. As a senior, I fell very much taken advantage of.

I was advised by the rental company I use that there was a problem with the water heater at a rental house of mine. My attempt to reach a plumber I had recently used was unsuccessful because he was out of town for 3 days, so I had to try something else.  A water heater is an emergency problem in a rental property!!
So I called Ben Franklin.  They did send someone and determined that a new water heater was necessary. The cost was outrageous but I felt I had no option since I had promised to take care of it.
I had to replace water heaters in 2 other rentals this year (talk about bad luck!) One was in January, and cost $695 and the other was in July at $607.
Ben Franklin was prompt and competent, but their price was double what I would have paid with anyone else.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. We understand your frustration with the prices of water heaters. This year the Department of Energy changed the efficiency laws on all water heaters. With this change also came a 40% price increase on water heaters from manufactures to cover the production of their products. In 2014 there was another law for lead free products. This also increased the cost of goods for plumbing fittings. With both laws in place there has been a dramatic price increase compared to a few years ago for the cost of goods. These laws make it impossible for any plumbing business to offer the same rates we did a few years ago based on increased price of goods. We do agree our prices may be higher than some competitors. We do ask that the warranties and guarantees be considered when comparing pricing."

"Thank you for your review however we feel the review does not match our efforts. We found your septic tank was full and needed to be pumped, which we do not do. We also discussed with you having maintenance done. We did not perform any services other than arriving on time, diagnosing your problem, and reporting our findings. We are not sure how this earned us an F rating."

HE CALLED BEFORE HE CAME. VERY PROFESSIONAL. GOOD SERVICE.
THEY DEFINITELY WANT TO UP-SELL. PRICES ARE VERY HIGH. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN LIFETIME FAUCETS FOR $600 - $800 DOLLARS! MINE FROM LOWE'S WAS $80.
I HAVE USED THEM BEFORE TO REPLACE MY HOT WATER HEATER. I WILL CONSIDER USING THEM IN THE FUTURE DEPENDING ON WHAT I NEED TO HAVE DONE. WILL SEARCH OTHER PLUMBERS ON ANGIE'S LIST.
THEY OFFERED TWO APPOINTMENT WINDOWS A ALL DAY APPOINT FOR $59 OR A FOUR HOUR WINDOW FOR $79.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review and continued trust in our company! Yes, we can be a little more expensive than some of our competitors. With any service provider we must consider the warranties and professional service vs what might be available at a cheaper price. We offer all of our services and options for our clients to choose from. If it is a choice of our several lifetime premier faucets that includes labor, materials, transferable, and guaranties or simply install a customer provided faucet we are 100% behind each client and their decision. Giving clients options to choose from based on their needs simply separates our services from our competitors. We feel not providing our clients several options to choose from is simply cheating them from being able to make a educated decision and pricing comparisons."

They fixed the problem but, the pricing was excessive. Compared to another unlicensed plumber who looked at what they fixed. Will not call them again. Just looked at their other reviews and most state that pricing was excessive as well so I'm not the only one to feel this way.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. We spoke recently. Your concern was that someone you knew said they could do this cheaper than we did. In all fairness we offered to match the price of our competitor, a licensed plumber. We followed up with you regarding this and you stated he could not give this written estimate because he was not a licensed plumber and did not want to get in trouble. Respectfully it costs us more to do business as a licensed plumbing company than someone who does not have this. We have the appropriate insurances, licenses, trained technicians, stocked vehicles, and equipment. Someone breaking the law can do it cheaper than us as they do not have the costs of a licensed plumbing contractor. We would urge you to use caution using theses type of services. If they are injured in your home, flood your house, or ... SAFETY. We only want the best for our community and we will urge our customers in Marsh Oaks to be aware of these services and the potential harm this could cause. We feel this review is a little unfair. It is unfair to any business that is delivering legal and honest services. We wish you the best of luck in the future. USE CAUTION HIRING ANYONE UNLICENSED & UNINSURED AS IT COULD COST MORE THAN A FEW DOLLARS SAVED."

I tried to fix it myself my replacing a gasket. I was unable to fix it or so I thought. The gentleman who came was very nice. Everything he needed was ready to go. He said I needed a new gasket. I informed him I put a new one on. He went to his truck & replaced the gasket with the same type I had just put on. The plumber screwed the gasket on- where I had eased it on. However, his was seeded right. He filled up the tank, and it worked fine. He then gives me a bill for $152. $59 to come to the house- a service charge which I understand. I know the part cost $3.79. In the meantime he tells me I need a new water conditioner. I said no thank you, and just paid him. He charged me $93 for ten minutes worth of service.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. It appears we fixed your problem and also provided a two year warranty with this repair. Our trucks are fully stocked to better serve our customers and respect for their time. Although the job was done quicker than you expected we have highly skilled technicians that get right to work. We feel the price reflected for the services performed are accurate based on our costs and fair market value. We encourage you to contact our office to discuss. We ask before you call please consider what you think is a fair price to perform the work provided. Please consider fair market pricing and our costs involved including technician pay, gas, vehicle maintenance, stocked truck, and warranties included. We agree it is cheaper for a homeowner to repair their own plumbing as they do not have these costs. Thank you for your time."

My In-Laws used Ben Franklin Plumbing earlier in the year after I recommended them.  I ran into the owner told him of my predicament and he took my name, address and phone number indicating he would have someone contact me early the next morning.  Just past 9 AM they called and we set up an appointment.  Jon arrived both early and professionally attired.  I showed him the problem spigot and told me he'll take of it.  In less than a half hour he was done.  I went outside and Jon showed me that he removed and replaced the outside spigot.  Looked professionally replaced.  Was happy with the whole process and will recommend them highly.  They are two-for-two with my family!

they were on time, professional in appearance and did the job fast-He charged me $463.00 prior to doing the job and when I was shocked he reduced the fee by $25.00.  It was Sunday and I was ready to be done with the mess or I wouldnt have paid it.  We have had the same job done before for 150-200 bucks never 400!!!!

Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. At Benjamin Franklin Plumbing your satisfaction is important to us. It appears you were very happy with the response time on a weekend, professionalism, and services rendered. With that said you were very unhappy with the price - F. It appears you actually paid $381 for this service. We try our best to be competitive in our market. With the additional services we offer, like answering our phones live on the weekends, fast response time, clean technicians, and professionalism it costs us a little more than our competitors that do not offer this. We appreciate your feedback and we try very hard everyday to cut our costs without taking from our technicians and eventually the service we provide to our customers."

Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"Thank you for your review. Based on our experience and our professional opinions we may recommend replacement of products from time to time. We offer these options as we understand each customer is unique and different. While some may choose to repair an item that is aged, others may want to replace with a higher efficiency and feature. Again, it is about offering options to our clients so they can make educated decisions. We are sorry to hear that the $59 to look at your water softener, test the water, and assist you with your request did not seem like a value. We offer these services at a low cost but we most also cover our costs like gas, pay, and training. We hope you consider these items and choose our services in the future."

The price was much to high for the amount of work that they had performed.  After we paid them they followed up with a survey to see how the service went.  I let them know that the service was fine but I was not satisfied with the pricing and they asked me what I thought would be a fair price and I told him $180.  He agreed that $180 was a fair price and said he would credit me back the difference that I paid.  This was back on April 4, 2014 and I have not received the credit so I gave them another call today.  They said they would call me back but I still have yet to hear from them.
Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
"The reviews written online and the Angie's List complaint from this customer was very unexpected after our attempts to ensure 100% customer satisfaction. We arrived on time, diagnosed the plumbing problem, gave pricing before we started the work with authorization, and provided professional plumbing services. We even helped the customer carry a closet door upstairs in his home. As we do with our customers, our office called and did a satisfaction happy check after the technician finished. At this time the customer stated he was happy with the service but unhappy with the price. Our General Manager spoke with the customer at that time (Friday), researched the service call, and returned his call as promised (Tuesday). The customer was given the opportunity to specify what would make him 100% satisfied and he stated a partial refund would do this. We accepted the offer to refund a partial credit back to the posted credit card. We also told the customer at that time to give it a little time to post as it has to process through multiple channels (banks, credit card companies, etc). The customer then posted two negative reviews online while this refund was being processed. We again reached out to the customer and explained we thought there was an agreement, with a refund he would be 100% satisfied. We also explained the reviews he wrote did not match our attempts on customer satisfaction and we wanted these updated accordingly. We attempted again to explain credit card refunds and the processing period. The agreement we had with the customer was: with a partial refund the customer would be 100% satisfied. The customer did not allow enough time for this to be fully processed before posting online reviews on items we have no control over. He did not post the reviews based on our dedication to customer service excellence. His first review was posted on Tuesday, the same day we offered a discount and again the following Tuesday. As with any business online reputation management is important. Once a negative review is posted it is there. Based on these reviews and the unwillingness of the customer to update them accordingly we reject the previous agreement we had of a refund. We were offering this refund for one reason: Customer Satisfaction."

While the plumber arrived on time (which is what this company promotes), he ended up being at my house for approx. 3-4 hours and leaving 3 times and returning with different parts to try to fix a leak. It took him a really long time to figure out that the leak was coming from a faulty spray nozzle (the kind you spray dishes with, etc). He went to buy a part and came back with the wrong part. Then he went back and got a different part and it didn't work either. After his third trip to Lowes or Home Depot (can't remember which but I wrote a separate check for the part), he finally ended up fixing it. And although he was very polite and very apologetic, it made me wonder if he was a true professional plumber.

"Thank you for your review. With hundreds of faucets available on the market it can be challenging keeping every product on our trucks. We certainly do a great job but there is that funny part. The great thing about our pricing is: Straight Forward. We were at your home longer than we expected 3 1/2 hrs, but we charged $137. Cheapest price in town!! We understand your time is important so we documented your equipment in your home. The next time we return we should have the appropriate parts for your repair. Have a great summer!!"
