"This review is long overdue! Diego retiled two bathrooms and our entire kitchen floor and backsplash in August. He was always quick to respond, was transparent about pricing (which was very reasonable), very professional, and did an excellent job! We were so impressed and so happy with the results. He was also a pleasure to work with. We would hire Diego again in a heartbeat for any future projects. Anyone looking for tile work should definitely hire him!"

"Haven’t had the install yet, but they came and quoted on the same day and the sales rep, Charles, was really wonderful! We needed the stairs done soon and they’ll be able to install them early next week! Exactly what we needed, and a great price!"

"I have used Mr. Green in the past and used him this time to stain my porch. He was very responsive and professional and did a great job. I also appreciated how he cleaned up after he worked. Deb M."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

Grout lines should typically be between 1/8 to 3/16 inch thick. This ensures enough room for the grout to dry properly and makes them wide enough to look clean and professional. If grout lines are too small, it can be easier to see imperfections in the spacing.

Yes, you can install a backsplash directly onto drywall, provided the wall is properly prepped, clean, and dry. For best results, especially in kitchen areas, your walls should be made of moisture-resistant drywall, often called green board. If your current wall isn't moisture-resistant, it's recommended to replace it before installing the backsplash. For even greater protection against water damage, you can remove the existing drywall and install a tile backer board or cement board instead. While properly installed standard drywall is typically strong enough to support a backsplash, some local building codes may require water-resistant materials in kitchen areas, so it's a good idea to check.

Yes, cracked tiles allow water to seep through the substrate or subfloor, leading to mold and mildew growth. It can also cause severe structural damage. At the very least, water damage can cause your tile to lift from the substrate, meaning one cracked tile can lead to several cracked tiles. It’s a good idea to waterproof tile in areas with direct water exposure or lots of moisture.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

Many homeowners have successfully retiled a bathroom themselves. It can be a challenging but rewarding process, but it’s best for someone who already has at least intermediate DIY skills.
