"Came home from out of town for a week to NO HEAT in house. Immediately started making calls trying to find someone to make a service call. All we could do was leave messages. First person called us back couldn’t come out for until next week. We like to use local businesses, and remembered seeing the BUSTLE HEATING and COOLING truck parked at the house near where we live. So we left them a message too. Within 30 minutes we received a callback. They were sorry they couldn’t get to us that day, but put us on the schedule for the next day (today)! They called at 8am and were here shortly thereafter. The Service Techs were very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. We now have heat, and we were pleasantly surprised by how FAIR PRICED our bill was. The Tech told us they were out Christmas Eve and the Owner took the calls on Christmas Day. Yes, a bigger well pump can increase water pressure—up to a point. If you currently have a well pump of 8 GPM, you might notice a pressure boost when you go up to 10 GPM. However, overshooting significantly (going up to 15 GPM for an 8 GPM home) can strain your well system and result in things like burst pipes that can decrease your water pressure and make for costly repairs.

Excessive pressure (above 80 psi) puts too much stress on plumbing pipes, joints, and fixtures. This can lead to leaks and burst pipes. Plus, it shortens the lifespan of appliances, can waste water, and can raise your utility bills. High water pressure might feel like a gift, but it’s actually a silent threat to plumbing.

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump). 

The lower 30/50 pressure is usually enough for a single-story home, but you may want 40/60 if you have multiple stories, as the extra pressure helps water flow smoothly up to the second floor.

For example, if the water is foul-smelling, bad-tasting, cloudy, or discolored, you should call a pro. A well does not run out of water because the groundwater continues to refill with rainwater that seeps through the ground.
