Customers say: Quick response

"Mark is very thorough and explains findings well. Took his time and when he picked up the radon tests a few days later, he took another look at the exterior as it was raining the day of the inspection. Great customer service."

"This is the third time I've had Joseph perform an inspection for me in the last three years. You will find my previous reviews elsewhere on Home Advisor. His first inspection saved me from purchasing a house with many issues that the sellers failed to disclose. They initially declared that they would not negotiate on anything, but when he was finished they were rushing to backpedal and begged me not to cancel my offer. The sale was cancelled the same day he was done with his inspection. His second inspection ended in my purchasing my current home, and after three years I remain very satisfied with the purchase. This latest inspection was done in order to renew my insurance. I was asked for a 4-point but based on his expertise, he recommended I also do the wind mitigation since it might be asked at some point. Turns out, it will be needed after all, and his recommendation saved me from having to do this twice. So I have used Joseph's services for years, and he's always delivered even if asked to do so in short notice, with time constraints, while being flexible and accommodating when it comes to scheduling the work. I haven't had reason to complain about his services yet, and I will continue to call him first whenever I require any sort of home inspection."

"Biotek is the best, most compassionate company I've ever dealt with. All the employees were top professionals with a very kind heart & ever so helpful. They answered all my questions honestly & were concerned about my health. All were knowledgeable, well trained, courteous, & performed the testing & remediation efficiently. They blocked off the place where the mold was found & protected me from any mold spores or mycotoxins the the remediation could stir up. They brought huge air scrubbers to my house to suck up all bad stuff in the air & used a special vacuum cleaner to clean the carpets, as well as cleaning the furniture. They thoroughly took every precaution & measure to get rid of all toxins & poisons from the mold that have made me so sick. I am so grateful for Biotek & pray for all in the company everyday. May God bless them more than they could ever ask or think."

"We needed this test done very quickly to meet our deadline and Mike was able to get the job done and results back to us with plenty of time to spare. He hand-delivered the test to the lab and got the results very quickly. Could not be happier with his work and the outcome."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

You can vent radon out of your house sometimes by simply opening a window, but it won’t remove the source, and will likely rise above recommended levels quickly. A professional will be needed to assess your home, and determine the best strategy for radon removal. Active radon sump pumps and soil depressurization systems are often used to forcefully vent the radon from your home.

Use a radon test kit or hire professionals to conduct a detailed assessment of radon levels in your home.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

Options include sub-slab depressurization, crawlspace ventilation, and sealing cracks. Choose based on home construction and radon levels.
