"When we finally decided it was time to replace our aging countertops and sink and to add the dishwasher the house never had, we reached out to a number of companies and contractors -- including the "Big Box" stores. After my wife's diligent search and our several Zoom meetings with possible contractors, we were absolutely thrilled to discover Design South, headed up by the dedicated, incredibly committed owner, Tammie Jones. Tammie came to our house, discussed our needs with us and then provided a line-item budget for all of the work that would need to be done. Along with being available to discuss issues with us as they arose -- moving cabinets and placing the dishwasher -- she also met us at the granite supplier's warehouse as we searched for the perfect pattern. Once work began, Tammie was on site for each of the three days that the renovation took, working closely with the on-site teams -- who are a regular trusted contractors working with her -- making sure that everything went as planned, handling whatever little wrinkles might come up -- there really weren't any. We can't say enough about how pleased we are with the result and how pleased we are too to have found a contractor who treated our project as if it were being done in her own home. We would happily hire her again and have already approached Design South about a second, small project. This is truly a five-star company."

"A couple of pieces of siding fell of the top of my house during a windstorm and since most siding companies only do whole exterior replacements, I called Mr. Handyman to get someone out to put the wind-blown siding back up. They said that they charge $168 for the first hour, and that if I already had the siding on hand, it shouldn't take more than an hour to put up. My technician arrived promptly at 9:00 AM, and within thirty minutes I knew that he was set to go well beyond the first hour. (I don't think this was the technician's fault by the way, I think its an administrative issue). Ultimately, putting up roughly 3 pieces of siding took two hours and thirty minutes! The work was good on visual inspection, but I was in no way prepared for the cost of the service (estimated at over $300). As a note, I previously had a section of siding replaced by a general contractor (who sourced and provided the siding) for the same amount and it took no more than 30 minutes. Luckily, my technician was sympathetic and charged me for only the first hour, but I think its really unfair to both the consumer and the technician that the front office is quoting times that are either a) completely unrealistic or b) that they have no intentions of being accountable to. A company that treats its clients and employees this poorly should not be patronized. Go to an independent handyman instead!"

I was nervous about hiring a contractor but Hugo was recommended by a friend. « Go with Hugo, he did a superb job of carpentry in my house ! ». I am so grateful to her! I did hire Hugo. Considering that we got exactly what we wanted, with the quality of both material and workmanship, we felt it was a fair deal. Also, I appreciated Hugo’s passion for his own work and the advice of an experienced builder. As a bonus, he was completely trustworthy, showing up when he said he would, meeting all date-lines, explaining small delays while waiting for Inspections from our County, etc… and taking care of “everything”, like permits or attending to last minute requests. And then, there is another aspect of the total experience: giving us peace of mind instead of worries.. That, to me, was very valuable."
