"Elias is soft-spoken, cooperative and pleasant to deal with. He and Leo painted the interior of a French patio doors and frame. They did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. Left the area clean and fresh. I paid him about 20% more than his modest estimate and now plan to hire him for more extensive drywall work and painting. Very highly recommended. Joel D. Isaacson, PhD. Clayton MO"

"This company was professional, and we had a big job. The company charged exactly what they estimated. On day one two workers replaced 2 walls of garage drywall with type X fire rated drywall. The next day the drywall expert repaired three feet of drywall ceiling that ran the width of the garage. He also perfectly repaired a flawed taping job that marred the looks of a bedroom ceiling . We were pleased he spread plastic to keep drywall dust produced when sanding finish from settling on furniture. This company is reputable, and I would recommend it."

"The Dowell family arrived promptly and began extensive repair of plaster walls and ceilings. They were professional, flexible and did extra work without increasing the original bid. They were clean and finished earlier than expected. They repaired problem areas where drywall and plaster joined. They repaired large holes in garage. The quality of the work is exceptional and the price was the fairest, least inflated that we received. We had to wait 3 weeks for start day but it was well worth it. They noticed so much plaster damage that we did not see and restored the integrity of the walls of our childhood home in preparation for selling. Thank you for the beautiful work."

"Carico Drywall just finished my garage, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The quality of their work was outstanding, and the finished product looks fantastic. They were professional, showed up when they said they would, kept the area clean, and paid attention to the details throughout the entire job. Communication was great from start to finish, and it was clear they take pride in their work. I highly recommend Carico Drywall to anyone looking for high-quality drywall work. I would definitely use them again for future projects."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

Costs depend on damage size, labor rates, and whether additional services like painting are required.

You should stagger drywall sheets to help prevent cracking. The joints between drywall sheets are the weak spots, so if you install drywall with seams aligned, you’ll create weak lines that run across the length of the wall and extend from floor to ceiling. But when you stagger drywall, the solid sections of panels will support the joints. This can prevent seams from cracking or separating due to fluctuating temperature and humidity, vibrations from movement inside the home, and gravity.
