"Brian and the crew removed ceiling popcorn and repainted ceilings in 3 bedrooms and a greatroom. They showed up when they said they would and kept me informed of their progress. We had a leak in our sky light and Brian fixed that on both the inside and outside... did a wonderful job. The ceilings all turned out great... amazing even. And the price was lower than 2 other bids. I would have given them 5 stars if it weren't for their cleanup... could have been better. But overall, yes. I would hire them again."

"The Dowell family arrived promptly and began extensive repair of plaster walls and ceilings. They were professional, flexible and did extra work without increasing the original bid. They were clean and finished earlier than expected. They repaired problem areas where drywall and plaster joined. They repaired large holes in garage. The quality of the work is exceptional and the price was the fairest, least inflated that we received. We had to wait 3 weeks for start day but it was well worth it. They noticed so much plaster damage that we did not see and restored the integrity of the walls of our childhood home in preparation for selling. Thank you for the beautiful work."

Customers say: Quick response

"Daniel was prompt in responding to our quotes and also prompt in answering questions. He took time to shoot a video of the house so that he can provide an accurate quote. His quote was reasonable and much less than other quotes we got. Work started and completed as per the schedule given to us. We haven't see the finish but our Real Estate agent who has seen before and after was totally impressed with the finish. If there is ever a need for a paint job, we will definitely use E and E painting/Daniel."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.

When sanding drywall mud, you’re going to create a very fine dust that may contain silica. Silica dust contains crystalline silica, which can cause long-term illnesses for people who inhale it in significant quantities. Wear a mask while sanding drywall. Then dampen a drywall sponge to wipe the dust off the drywall, helping to reduce the amount of dust that may become airborne.

Yes, drywall can hold a 50-pound TV. However, when mounting a TV, you’ll either need to attach it to wall studs or use drywall anchors. If you use anchors, make sure to buy a type that can hold at least 50 pounds. Molly bolts, threaded anchors, and toggle bolts are all good options. For extra support, you can also install a wall mounting plate with the anchors.

Yes, it matters which side of drywall you use. One side is smooth, and the other is rough. The smooth side should be facing outward, toward the room, while the rough side should be hidden and facing the studs and framing of the house. The smooth side will be easier to apply tape, joint compound, and, later, paint to.
