"Overall, I was happy with the experience and would recommend this company to other homeowners. There were a few issues with communication and scheduling, but once those were worked out, the project was scheduled quickly and smoothly. The quality of the work was very good overall, and the workers were polite and professional; however, they did leave a small amount of loose insulation dangling from the ceiling of the room I'm remodeling."

Small jobs welcome

"What a great experience and quality service I received from West County Insulation! From the initial visit to offer a quote through completion of installation, the staff were respectful, knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. They even reduced the charge after noticing an unnecessary service on the estimate that could only be verified when they took out the old insulation. I would have never known, but appreciate that kind of integrity. I recommend them highly!"

"The company Carico drywall installed new drywall under my carport and painted all around also painted the poles made it look beautiful. Also installed insulation. The workers Tim and his helpers worked so hard in the hottest days of the year and the owner Kyle worked with me and and they had this project done earlier than expected. I would definitely use them again."

"They were very professional and thorough. They helped us solve multiple issues with mice in attic, poor ventilation and not enough insulation. They replaced the fiberglass insulation with cellulose, air sealed the attic and properly vented the attic. They answered all our questions to our satisfaction and explained the process for the project in detail. Highly recommend!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Each of the three types of wool insulation has particular disadvantages. While their R-value is higher, they all cost more than fiberglass versions. Installing mineral wool and sheep wool requires protective gear. Because of its vulnerability to insects, chemicals are used in its production. Hemp wool is more costly to install than other types because additional tools and labor are involved.

Selling a house with spray foam insulation can be challenging due to concerns about improper installation or its compatibility with the home's structure. If not applied correctly, spray foam can cause issues such as moisture buildup, cracking, or damage to wiring and plumbing. If the insulation didn't cure correctly, there are also flammability concerns. Removing or repairing this type of insulation can pose risks as well.

On it own, aluminum siding has a relatively low insulation value (also called R-value); aluminum siding has an R-value of 0.61. However, you can purchase insulated aluminum siding to increase the R-value to between 2 and 5. You can also install additional insulation within your walls to help maintain temperatures within your home. On average, insulation costs $1,825 to install throughout the typical home.

Unfaced wall insulation is easier to cut and install, making it the better choice for a DIY project. It’s also more affordable. But if it’s unfaced, you’ll likely need to add a vapor barrier to reach your desired R-value and efficiency, as it doesn’t offer any moisture barrier.

Faced insulation uses paper or foil to create a built-in barrier and doesn’t require an extra step. It’s also more fire-resistant and safe. But it’s quite a bit more expensive and a little bit harder to work with as a DIYer.

Closed-cell foam may come with a higher price tag, but it’s worth the investment because of its strength and durability. This material offers excellent thermal and moisture resistance, contributing to its long life span. Its construction enhances energy efficiency, which can lead to reduced heating and cooling costs over time.
