"Vene Construction did a fantastic job on the drywall work and Elias is very easy to work with. There were a couple minor spots that need to be touched up related to the painting but overall, I had a great experience with Vene Construction."

"Carico Drywall just finished my garage, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The quality of their work was outstanding, and the finished product looks fantastic. They were professional, showed up when they said they would, kept the area clean, and paid attention to the details throughout the entire job. Communication was great from start to finish, and it was clear they take pride in their work. I highly recommend Carico Drywall to anyone looking for high-quality drywall work. Small jobs welcome

"Steve did a great job at a reasonable price. He is professional, skilled and friendly. We'd had parts of walls and ceilings ripped out on 2 floors when our cast iron stack pipe broke. He replaced drywall, cut and replaced wood trim, baseboards, and wood paneling at the bottom half of one wall. Then he primed and painted. And, he cleaned up when done. We will definitely hire Steve for future jobs. Mary Thurmond"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, wainscoting is installed directly over drywall. However, ensure the drywall is in good shape since it will support the wainscoting. If the drywall has issues, such as holes, mold, or mildew, repair them before installing the wainscoting. Alternatively, you can install a plywood substrate before attaching the trim.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

New plaster must be fully dry and cured before painting. The drying time for plaster ranges from 1 to 4 hours, but the curing process can take more than five days, depending on various factors, including humidity levels, temperature, the amount of plaster used, and airflow in the area. You should always apply primer before painting plaster.

Whether it’s better to screw or glue drywall depends on your specific budget and project timeline. Professional drywall installers are more likely to use screws and fasteners than adhesives, but it takes longer. But if you are DIYing your drywall installation, glue is a perfectly fine choice if you’re willing to pay extra for adhesive.
