"Carlos was extremely helpful as we were deciding on a contractor. He took time, answered our questions and was not afraid to offer opinions regarding our ideas on how to change the house look. The crew was excellent and we are totally satisfied with the work. We had one issue arise during the project and Carlos stepped up quickly to get it resolved. Recommend ProHome Exteriors with hesitation."

"Ken Turner, the owner of Turner Painting Company came to my home the day I called and spoke with him about repair and painting of some walls and a ceiling in my home. He looked at all that needed to be done, explained how everything would be repaired and painted, and gave me a very reasonable bid of $750 to do the work. He set up an appointment for the work to be done. I gave him a check for $150. I had all the paint that would be used for the job, except for the foyer ceiling. Ken let me choose the color I wanted, to match the walls, and the cost of the paint was included in the bid. The appointment was for 8:00 A.M. and the painters, (Jane and Jake) were at my home about 5 minutes early. Jake sealed off the area around the foyer, got the old peeling ceiling sanded down, coated, and painted. He carefully took down the little chandelier, and did a perfect job. Meanwhile, Jane repaired and painted two small areas in the kitchen. Unfortunately, that can of paint had dried up, so she went to get a quart of paint to match. She then went upstairs and took care of a wall that had water stains on it from a leak in a pipe on the roof. The leak had been repaired, so it was time to repair and paint the wall, which she did perfectly. They left for lunch, to give the walls and ceilings a chance to dry. They painted everything, and finished the job by late afternoon. Cleanup was perfect. You would never know that scraping had been done. The owner, and the people he sent to do the job were all friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, and proud to do the jobs perfectly. I would certainly use this company again, and I would recommend them to anyone needing repair and painting at their home. This is a family owned business, and I have found over the years that family businesses have pride in their company, and are usually perfectionists. Jane told me if I have any problems with their work, they would be happy to return to make sure I was happy with the outcome. I have no doubt that they do every job as well as they did mine Jill"

"Dave and his crew were fantastic! I ordered the wrong color by mistake! Dave and I went to the Sherwin Williams paint store. They were unable to tweak my bad paint to match the bracket from the door so I ended up buying a new gallon that matched it perfectly! With Dave's contractor discount I did save money on the new paint. He was so helpful and cooperative! They did a great job on the door and trim. Looks brand new! I would highly recommend Dave for any painting project!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.

If you don’t treat a cedar fence, it will turn from reddish brown to gray over time. You can keep the cedar from graying and retain its attractive, deep red color by sealing your cedar fence with a stain that keeps the wood’s oils in and serves as a barrier against the sun’s UV rays.

You’ll want to avoid excessively hot or humid conditions, so it’s best to apply your stain in late spring to early fall. It's also important to watch the weather forecast and aim for days when there isn’t rain expected for at least three days. For new decks, allow the wood to season beforehand for at least four to eight weeks.
