"The team were excellent. They got the job done right. I asked for sanding before they stained my deck on a few extra areas like the deck bench and the accommodated. I will be hiring again for any deck needs."

"We have used Painting Innovations for a number of projects over the years at two different homes, and they always do outstanding work! Our most recent project was the exterior painting of our home along with staining of our deck and pergola. Everything went great from start to finish! David, who is one of the owners, is amazing to work with and communicated with us frequently through project completion. William led the team who did the work, and he was also awesome to work with - friendly, professional and very detail oriented. The crew took a lot of care with the prep, painting and staining, and the end result is beautiful. We will continue to use Painting Innovations for all of our exterior and interior painting needs."

"We hired rob to stain our new fence and older deck. Rob is very knowledgeable and considerate. He was quick on giving a reasonable quote, communicated thoroughly, and finished the project in a timely manner. He even dropped off a brochure of stain colors for my convenience and was honest and reduced his quoted price since he did not have to use as much stain as previously thought. I will be recommending rob to others and keeping him as a contact for future projects."

"In a word - OUTSTANDING! Christopher Wilson and his entire crew did a terrific job painting the exterior of our home and staining our decks. We also had a significant amount of wood rot that need to be repaired. The carpentry and craftsmanship was top-notch as they mitigated the wood rot. The entire crew worked hard, were responsive and kept a clean job site. I would hire Christopher Wilson and his company again without reservation."

"

I cannot say enough good things about Kevin Turner and his crew!!  I found Kevin's company through Angie's List and after reading several glowing reviews about his work and his experience with older homes, I decided to contact him for a bid.  He responded out to my address the very next day and, while I was at work, looked over my house and placed a bid in my mailbox.  I have to admit, it was quite a bit more money than I had hoped to pay but, I knew my 1924 Craftsman needed a lot of work and so, my husband and I decided to go with Kevin Turner.  I cannot express how glad I am that we did!!  From the very beginning, Kevin went out of his way to do the very best job possible.

The first day he and his crew worked it was rainy and cold, and they were out there all day for a solid 8 hours power washing my house.  They then spent over 2 solid days just scraping paint, replacing rotten boards and siding, and prepping the house for painting.  After over a week of prepping, painting, and dodging the sporadic rain storms, my little house was finally finished.  If that had been all Kevin had done, it would have been great.  But, it was all the other extra things that Kevin did that demonstrated how much pride he takes in the job that he does.

First, I had this old crabapple tree that blocked half of the front of my house so Kevin said he would like to cut it down, if I would let him.  I was thrilled!! I had been wanting that tree gone for years.  So, he brought his chainsaw the next day, cut it down, chopped it up and had it hauled away.  Then there was my sad, crooked steps on my back deck, he fixed those without me even asking.  He took off an old satellite dish and all the random, wayward cables that went with it.  He replaced 2 ceiling joists and the 2 posts on my front porch. He painted my front door and screen door and even painted a little wooden table on my front porch that was peeling badly.  The old, ugly plastic gutters on my house were taken down, new fasciae boards put up and Kevin even arranged for a seamless guttering company to come out and give me a bid on new gutters!!  I know I'm leaving some things out because, every day it seemed these little projects would come up and, without a second thought, Mr. Turner would just take care of them.  It was such a relief to leave my precious house in his capable hands and have him work his magic.  He is a true professional craftsman and was simply a pleasure to work with.

"Carlos was extremely helpful as we were deciding on a contractor. He took time, answered our questions and was not afraid to offer opinions regarding our ideas on how to change the house look. The crew was excellent and we are totally satisfied with the work. We had one issue arise during the project and Carlos stepped up quickly to get it resolved. Recommend ProHome Exteriors with hesitation."

"Ken Turner, the owner of Turner Painting Company came to my home the day I called and spoke with him about repair and painting of some walls and a ceiling in my home. He looked at all that needed to be done, explained how everything would be repaired and painted, and gave me a very reasonable bid of $750 to do the work. He set up an appointment for the work to be done. I gave him a check for $150. I had all the paint that would be used for the job, except for the foyer ceiling. Ken let me choose the color I wanted, to match the walls, and the cost of the paint was included in the bid. The appointment was for 8:00 A.M. and the painters, (Jane and Jake) were at my home about 5 minutes early. Jake sealed off the area around the foyer, got the old peeling ceiling sanded down, coated, and painted. He carefully took down the little chandelier, and did a perfect job. Meanwhile, Jane repaired and painted two small areas in the kitchen. Unfortunately, that can of paint had dried up, so she went to get a quart of paint to match. She then went upstairs and took care of a wall that had water stains on it from a leak in a pipe on the roof. The leak had been repaired, so it was time to repair and paint the wall, which she did perfectly. They left for lunch, to give the walls and ceilings a chance to dry. They painted everything, and finished the job by late afternoon. Cleanup was perfect. You would never know that scraping had been done. The owner, and the people he sent to do the job were all friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, and proud to do the jobs perfectly. I would certainly use this company again, and I would recommend them to anyone needing repair and painting at their home. This is a family owned business, and I have found over the years that family businesses have pride in their company, and are usually perfectionists. Jane told me if I have any problems with their work, they would be happy to return to make sure I was happy with the outcome. I have no doubt that they do every job as well as they did mine Jill"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The best way to protect a deck is to prevent damage from UV light, water, mold, mildew, insects, and abrasive cleaning methods. Sweep regularly to prevent debris that hides bugs and traps moisture that can result in mold or mildew growth. Use a deck cleaner once a year to remove algae, mold, and mildew. Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.

Eggshell and satin finishes are best for porches because they sit in the sweet spot between scuffable matte and distracting high gloss. Your porch sees a fair amount of wear and tear, so you don’t want paint that’ll show every mark like matte, but you don’t want to be blinded by glossy paint in the sun either. Eggshell and satin have durability and a look that sits nicely in the middle.

The best time to paint your deck is when temperatures are neither too cold (below 60 degrees) nor too hot (above 85 degrees). Always paint your deck when there’s no risk of rain. For fast-drying paint like acrylic or latex, ensure your deck can dry for at least four hours. Oil-based paints take longer to dry and may require 48 hours to completely cure.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Here's the deal with leaving used rags covered in oil-based stain lying around in a pile: Depending on the conditions, these rags can take just an hour or up to a few days to combust. The source of ignition is caused by trapped heat that can be compounded if the rags are near a heat source.
