"Amazing communication, professionalism, and price. Trained arborists made short work of the job. They artfully worked around dangerous obstacles without incident or delay, taking the extra time to leave the work area cleaner than they found it. I was very impressed. The crew was not at all intimidated by navigating obstacles in the city. I will definitely be calling Baumann again for future jobs."

Small jobs welcome

"This contractor promptly responded and gave an estimate to trim and shape 2 spiral pine trees. The crew came out the same day to start work. Trees were cut to the requested height and cleaned up. The trees did not look very good after the trimming. Per request, the crew returned and did a fantastic job removing the trees to make way for new trees. Great job, and thank you for the fantastic customer service."

"Great work. Showed up on time. Team hit the ground running. Due to space considerations and the size of the tree, the crew had to drop the tree manually. They moved yard “stuff” (birdbath , etc.) that might be in the trees path. Very professional. Team constantly raking and picking up debris. When they were done they left a very clean space behind, with no yard divots and only a little sawdust. We had a very large tree, and they had it down and out in four hours. Victor was our contact and he was very professional and explained every step of the process. Highly recommend. We are scheduling A & M for additional tree work in the fall."

"The crew of 5 worked methodically to remove and trim the trees and then cut up the trunk of the large Hickory making it easy to move for my husband. My yard/driveway was clean and tidy when Mike and his crew left. They had to deal with a children's play set, a horse fence and mature plantings all while the large tree was down......could not have asked for better results! Will recommend Baumann Tree Service and we will use their services again.

"Kyle Hudson the owner called right away after entering the project into Home Advisor. He came out the next day and appraised the removal of 4 difficult to get at trees - close to house, neighbors house, fencing, electric wires you name it. He gave me a price lower than I expected. Two days later he was up (I'm in St. Louis) with a crew of 4 or 5 experienced tree men . They were courteous and professional - a pleasure to work with. We discussed some further work I will want them for in the future and in just a couple of hours they had cleaned up everything ( even cleaned some small branches and twigs that had got into the guttering ) and were gone. Great job! I highly recommend Kyle and his crew."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s possible to overwater a newly-planted tree. Daily watering is great for the first few weeks, but it’s important not to go overboard. Excessive watering can lead to various problems, including root rot, fungal diseases, and a lack of root development.

You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.

The fastest ways to remove a tree stump are by grinding it or burning it.

Stump grinding is often the quickest method, with professionals able to chip away a stump and its roots within a single session. You have the option to hire a professional stump removal service or rent a stump grinder to do it yourself. However, it's important to note that these machines can be large, difficult to transport, and dangerous to operate without prior experience. For safety reasons, hiring a local arborist or landscape specialist is often recommended.

Burning is another fast option. Before you begin, check your local burn laws. The process involves drilling holes into the stump, filling them with vegetable oil, and waiting 24 to 48 hours. Afterward, you can add charcoal bricks to the surface and light the fire, which must be attended at all times.

For a more affordable but much slower alternative, you can use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate the natural decomposition process. This method typically takes four to six months.

You can start your search for a reputable arborist online by looking for professionals who hold the proper licensing and are fully insured. Next, read through some online reviews to see what kind of service the expert brings to the table, and confirm that they don’t have a history of complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Finally, you can ask the professional for a list of references and then call them to ask questions about the service, professionalism, value, and more that the expert brings to the table.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.
