"Dave and Martinez did an excellent job of both the brick wall repair and the chimney. The wall was crumbling at the top (50+ years old) and the chimney also needed repair. Replacement brick closely matched. In spite of working in the summer heat, both are extremely hardworking, courteous, considerate, and willing to listen to our ideas. We will definitely recommend ASAP Tuckpointing to any and all we hear of who need this kind of help and assistance."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Sam and his team constructed a composite deck, w/ aluminum rails, a gate and 2 set of stairs. In addition, he rebuilt a retaining wall and added drainage from the house gutters. Per usual, his work was outstanding and he will continue to be my go to for all exterior projects. Would highly recommend him for all projects, large and small (retaining walls, drainage, pavers, decks, etc.)."

"Patrick did a great job on the drywall for basement finish! He was very attentive and took care of anything that needed fixing right away. He even came back after the job was done to repair a few spots. I would highly recommend him and would use him again."

"Everything went well!! Tim came out, checked the damage we needed repaired, told us approximately how long it would take and included his hourly rate. He returned when he said he would, fixed what was discussed and then some (due to unseen rot) and fixed the pitch on one section of gutter that was causing one of the issues. The repairs took a bit longer (that was conveyed before proceeding) but it all looks great!! He cleaned up behind himself too, which doesn't always happen with some workers!!"

"Luis, the owner, was the first to call me and went to check my rental property. He sent me pictures before and after work. Did it on time as promised. Cleaned up the debris on wall and pathway. I give him a five in rating."

Small jobs welcome

"David has worked wonders in our home. He fixed many issues within our bedroom and bathroom where our walls needed repairs. He made sure to perfect all of his work, taking passion in his projects. He is a flexible worker, happily working around our two very involved large dogs as well as our newborns nap schedules. He is knowledgeable in many trades and is happy to hand out advice. We highly recommend David!!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.
