"Painting was the final part of a four month home remodeling project. Fadi and his team of two young ladies worked quietly and efficiently, cleaning up as they went. Their workmanship and professionalism is evident throughout the house."

Customers say: Quality work

"Very great value for my money! We hired him to do some exterior paint work and he did extra work for us! He painted some vents and completed repair work on the door jams. They look great! He put some extra effort to do some things that most painters would not!  I appreciates the great work he did for us."

"Paul was right on the ball and was the first one to respond to my request for painting. He scheduled an appointment to come and provide an estimate. Always on time and always professional he gave good advice about my project. I wanted my living room, dining room, hallway and staircase down painted the same color. He and his crew were so easy to work with we went ahead and asked them to add the kitchen, laundry room and guest bath. They were very helpful in moving furniture in preparation for and after clean-up of the project. Their work was efficient and of impeccable quality. They were honest - I accidentally paid them too much and Paul personally brought the overpayment to our home… I would have never know about the overpayment except for his honestly and integrity. We have even scheduled further painting from the company. I would highly recommend them."

"We want to thank St. Charles Painting and Remodeling for the exceptional job they did rebuilding and staining our cedar fence. This was a complex project involving replacement of more than 200 pickets and 30 supports. Mark Walsh and his team managed and completed the project with much attention to detail. They provided excellent follow up as well. A special thank you is due to Barb Smith, the Office Manager/Controller for her excellent communication and follow up with us during a very busy time of year for the company. She always answered the phone and coordinated the project. We definitely recommend this company."

"While painting they made sure my home was protected by covering the carpets and went above and beyond by fixing some wall outlet covers at no extra charge, they did an outstanding job painting my basement also. I would highly recommend them and will be using them for my future pairing needs"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Staining a wood fence isn’t guaranteed to prevent warping, but it can help. Plus, it’s a beginner-friendly DIY project that you can finish in a few days. If you want to try it, you’ll start by stripping it of any old stain or paint, then sanding it. After that, you’ll clean it and spot-treat any mold or mildew. When it’s dry, you can apply the stain.

DIY is possible with proper tools and knowledge, but professionals can ensure even application and high-quality results, saving time and hassle.

Maintain your wattle fence by inspecting it at least twice per year for loose weaving and degrading branches. Replace any seriously degraded sections, ensure water drains properly around the posts, and trim any sprouting branches if you used green wood. If you notice the weave loosening, you can often tighten it by gently pushing down on the top branches. You can also apply a natural wood preservative every two to three years to extend the fence's lifespan.

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. It's more effective at enhancing the richness of the color rather than significantly changing it. Ensure the first coat is dry before applying the second.

Pressure-treated wood lasts at least 10 years, but with the right care and treatment, it can last as long as 40 years. Painting the boards is one way to increase the lifespan of pressure-treated wood. The layer of paint provides extra protection for the wood against the exterior elements and insects.
