Yes, if you have a vehicle suitable for transporting concrete, you can manually load the pieces, drive to the dump, and dispose of the concrete. If you have access to a public dump, you may not have to pay per visit, but private dumps will usually charge based on the weight and type of debris. As you can imagine, dumping concrete can get expensive using a private dump site. Hiring a professional concrete disposal company is usually a better option to get the job done quickly and safely.

First, most contractors will have a structural engineer create a report and plan for your project to ensure it’s safe to cut into the load-bearing wall. The contractor will then excavate around the wall, if necessary, measure the opening—allowing for additional space to fit and level the door, and then cut the doorway out. They will likely install a steel lintel as a header over the door for support. Once the doorway is cut out, they’ll demolish the concrete using sledge hammers and masonry chisels, clean up the surrounding concrete, and seal around the door with masonry mortar. 

The best way to cut concrete pavers is with a circular saw or angle grinder, but you’ll need a diamond blade made for cutting masonry. If you have a lot of cuts to make, you may want to opt for a wet saw to cut your pavers instead. 

A diamond masonry blade is the best option for cutting concrete. These are more expensive than abrasive blades, but they last much longer. A wet-cutting diamond blade is ideal for larger projects, as the water introduced during cutting will cool the blade and prevent you from having to take breaks to let the blade cool naturally.

It’s far more labor-intensive and expensive to demolish a concrete slab before laying down pavers. You’ll need a professional to break up and haul away the concrete, excavate underneath, bring in paver base or crushed gravel, and then level the area with leveling sand before laying the pavers. A new paver patio will cost around $1,000 to $2,000, which is more than laying pavers over a concrete patio, and takes longer to complete.
