"Kirkwood Plumbing was very responsive, sending a highly qualified technician within 24-hours. He did an incredible job replacing old cast stacks and vents to our 2nd floor bath. The further comment that I would make is they are not cheap. I'm still trying to reconcile their cost for a 7-8 hour job, but the results couldn't be better."

"I can't thank Steve from Anytime Plumbing Services enough for his outstanding service! When I found myself in a plumbing emergency on a Saturday morning with a tight deadline, Steve came to my rescue. He arrived promptly, which was impressive given the short notice. Steve's professionalism and courtesy were evident from the moment he stepped in. He took the time to listen to my concerns and thoroughly explained every step of the repair process. I appreciated his transparency and clear communication, which put me at ease during a stressful situation. What really stood out was Steve's integrity. Despite my urgent need for help, he didn't take advantage of the situation. His pricing was fair, and he completed the job efficiently without any unnecessary upsells. The quality of Steve's work was top-notch, and he resolved my plumbing issue quickly and effectively. Thanks to his expertise, I was able to meet my deadline without any further complications. I highly recommend Steve and Anytime Plumbing Services for their reliability, skill, and honest approach. It's reassuring to know there's a plumber I can trust for both routine and emergency services. Five stars! â â â â â â â â â â â â â"

"Maplewood Plumbing was the 2nd company I called to replace a garbage disposal after the first company was blatantly trying to rip me off. The plumber they sent was on time, friendly, honest (he didn't try to upsell me models) and was less than a third the price of the 1st company I had called. Thankful for a company I can trust, I will absolutely use them again in the future!"

"This was not an easy job. Our home in Saint Louis Hills was a challenge for contractors. [concrete, brick, old pipes, etc.] One local well known companys bid was thru the roof and another smaller one did not even want to tackle this job. So, we turned to Angies List. Fortunately, we found G A Schott. Darryl came to our house and did not blink. We went to their showroom and we were convinced this was our contractor. Angie, Darryls' wife, was a pleasure to work with. We changed our minds to make some minor changes in the middle of the project and they {Angie and James] always tried and satisfied us. James is their Jack of all trades. He is their carpenter, electrician, plumber, painter, floor layer, and demolition man. I am sure one of the reasons their bid was lower than others was because they don't have to get 10 other contractors to do what James can do. We felt completely safe with him here even when we were not. {and that was a lot] James is a young man who is a perfectionist. He really takes pride in his work. Our bathrooms are now finished, and we are thrilled at how they turned out. Just beautiful! Thank you G A Schott. Thanks Angies List"

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

While PEX can't melt, high temperatures can alter its performance. The maximum heat that PEX can safely be exposed to is 180 degrees Fahrenheit. When PEX is exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time, it may fail. While copper can withstand hot temperatures better than PEX, copper pipes freeze more easily compared to PEX.

In most cases, you can’t connect to an existing sewer line, but this is specific to new builds and additions. For example, if you add on to a home or build an ADU, you'll likely have to install an entirely new sewer line. In most places, connecting new lines to an existing line is not up to code. As such, most new home builds or additions will require proposals for an entirely new line from the construction site to the sewer.

Installing a drain pipe costs about $600, ranging from $150 to $2,000, depending on the type of drain, accessibility, proximity to drain lines, and whether you’re installing new drain pipes or replacing old ones. Replacing a main drain line can cost over $2,000, whereas replacing a p-trap costs around $150 on average. Keep in mind that new water pipe installation projects are bid by fixture, like kitchen sink, toilet, or main water line. You can expect to pay $70 to $1,000 per fixture.

You should flush your water heater at least once a year, with some experts recommending a schedule of every six to 12 months (e.g., once in the spring and fall). The ideal frequency depends on several factors.

If your area has hard water with high mineral concentrations, you should flush the heater more often—typically every four to six months. Additionally, a water heater that is used frequently may require more frequent flushing than one that is used less often.

Regular flushing is important because it removes sediment buildup from the bottom of the tank. This maintenance helps improve the heater's efficiency, extend its lifespan, and prevent issues like clogs, overheating, and increased energy consumption. You can either learn to perform this task yourself or arrange for a service plan with a professional plumber.

The water supply lines run underneath the bathtub. These two pipes deliver cold and hot water to the bathtub—the cold water comes from the main water supply, and the hot water comes from the water heater. The pipes are made from copper, cream-colored plastic CPVC, or red and blue PEX tubing.
