"Last weekend had someone pry our side door open to our exterior garage and the ADT door sensor picked it up immediately. The alarm siren was loud and scared the person off. Someone from the response center called within 30 seconds. We’re fortunate that the security system did what it is supposed to. Feels like we made the right call going with an ADT security system."

"Delivery was delayed due to credit inquiry. After the concern was raised, shipment was rushed to us. Self installation didn't go as easy. Issue was resolved over the phone. The glass break sensor was a bit sensitive to loud noise such as cabinet door closing and door sensor repeatedly falls off and had to be reattached. Notification of alarm activation was fast and made to the right contact numbers. This prevented false alarm calls to the police."

"It's all very user friendly and reliable. Jeremy helped get us setup with our new system - he was great, very informative and candid. Larry came out and installed everything, and he was a pleasure. I totally recommend 1st Security USA to anyone in the Washington DC metro area."

"The job went very smoothly. The tech ran a bit late, but he called to say so. He installed a keypad by the front door and assessed the house for security. He suggested, since there are several casement windows in the living room and adjoining dining room that a breaking glass sensor would work better and be more cost-effective than alarming all the windows. He did alarm a door that the previous company (inherited when we bought the house twenty-three years ago) had not considered significant. I feel safer with the current sensor choices than the ones I had before.
He took the time to make sure I knew how to use the system, so I am very pleased with the service. My one caveat: I was told that the motion sensor would not register my smaller pets (two cats) because they weigh under forty pounds. They must have set off the sensor, though, because the police responded. The system certainly alerts the authorities, but that motion sensor is very sensitive!

"We like their service. We haven't had any problems. They are very good. This was the first time we've had an alarm/security system in our home. The supplier is ADT. I like that I can set my alarm every night before I go to bed."

"I hired this company in July to install a 4' fence and after having multiple problems with one particular gate and misleading sales pitch from Keith Uhrig, the manager Tom ensured us that the deck project would go much smoother and he would make sure that we are not charged anything extra for "hard holes" (basically means holes dug by jack hammer).  On our fence project, we were charged an additional $400 for all 25 posts that had to be jack hammered (read my review on fence project to get more details.)

Any way, our deck project got started Monday, September 27, 2012.  We were told that this project would take about 3 days.  All projects are depended on weather too.  My husband and I were not home during this remodel and could tell upon our arrival home in the later afternoons, that it didn't look like much progress was being made but we didn't say anything then because we don't know how quick they are suppose to move or how many people were on the crew for our job.  On 8/27/12, our existing deck was removed.  On 8/28/12, new deck floor and temporary posts installed.  On 8/29/12 the permanent post installed and the steps were started.  But on this same day, we found quite a bit of problems with the progress (photos attached).  On 8/30/12 I emailed Paul at Chesterfield Fence & Deck our photos and concerns.  He didn't respond to me (as requested), but we did get in touch with Chad (our project lead guy), Chad informed us that it's only been him and one other guy working on our project and that the other guy has had family issues which has been causing them to stop the project mid day all week.  Chad assured me that he fired this 2nd crewman and him and a new guy will get everything fixed to satisfaction and that the problems were caused by the guy he fired. Our concerns were that the three posts did not align properly and didn't seem structurally sound.  The stairs were too bouncy and two support posts needed to be added underneath to be secure. On this same day 8/30/12 Chad did fix everything but couldn't wrap up the job Friday because of rain.  Chad and crew (new guy plus the guy he fired) returned on Tuesday, 9/4/12 and completed everything we asked.  All he needed to do was return either 9/5 or 9/6 to remove the concrete covering for posts and that's it.  Chad did not return either of these two days and when I called him on Friday 9/7/12 he said he asked Derrick (guy he fired) to stop by our house and remove coverings.  Since Derrick did not, Chad suggested coming out Monday 9/10/12 to complete, but I suggested that he return Saturday (on his day off) to handle this task, being that no one called us to advise it wouldn't get completed and didn't follow through with promise.  Chad agreed and apologized for the mishap and returned Saturday morning 9/15 to remove coverings.  Futhermore, the project still remained unresolved because the county inspector still needed to visit our site to approve and sign off on final evaluation and mind you, we could not use our new deck until this was completed.   I waited until Monday 9/17/12 before calling Chesterfield to inquire and left a voice message for Dave Williams to call me.  Dave did not call me back (normal practice for this company) and on Wednesday 9/I9/12 I called Dave again where he answered the phone and of course had several excuses for not returning my call but ensured that the final inspection would be done on 9/20/12.  Upon arriving home 9/20/12 the inspector did visit and provided final approval of the project.

During this deck project, I had a conversation with Tom (manager who claimed to save me money for hassles of Fence/Deck projects) but in fact, Tom was not saving us any money.  That's because after rereading our contract for the deck, it was already an exclusion that we would not be charged for hard holes (jack hammered holes). So again, mislead and sheisty representation by everyone, from the sales guy to upper management.  SAD!

I will never use this company again!  Their is no question about the finished results and how much we think everything is beautiful, but our experience with customer service, management escalation to get issues corrected and misleading sales pitch were just too much hassle and not worth it.

"Protect America Alarm Systems are wireless home security systems that are so advanced and yet uncomplicated that the consumer can install all components to the system themselves. Tech support is provided which makes installation easy and very user friendly. The system is monitored and response to alarm signal is quick and nearly immediate. ( I accidentally set it off a couple times having forgotten that it was set when we left home). I've had a couple different systems in my homes over the years which were "professionally" installed; one was wired the other wireless. I install this myself with the help of tech support, I'm 65years old in good health but of course not as agile as I was a few years ago, but this system was a piece of cake for me to install. Every access to my home has been covered as well as some interior sensors. All of which have functioned flawlessly from day one!

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

Each has its use, depending on the scenario. Security doors are primarily intended to keep people out of the home, while storm doors are used to protect the home from extreme weather. Both tend to be made from heavy-duty metal and may include glass panels to allow light to enter the home. Storm doors can feature mesh screens, just like screen doors, to allow for increased ventilation and to keep out pests. Security doors rarely, if ever, have mesh screens.

The best type of deadbolt depends on your specific needs. If accessibility is your primary concern, a single-cylinder deadbolt is the easiest to operate. Mortise locks are likely the most secure type of deadbolt you can install, but single-cylinders combined with secondary locking mechanisms like vertical locks are also a great option. Smart locks will give you the most flexibility to open and close your locks whenever and wherever you need to.

If you want to make more home security upgrades to your perimeter, consider installing a smart automatic gate opener and a security camera. These will allow you to see who’s at the gate and open it for them (or not). You can learn how to install an automatic gate opener yourself or hire a professional for a little extra.

A home security system can be a worthwhile investment for several reasons. Financially, it may qualify you for a discount of up to 20% on your home insurance premiums, which can help offset the initial setup costs and any ongoing monitoring or subscription fees. For many, the primary benefit is the peace of mind that comes with enhanced security, especially for those living in areas with higher crime rates. Ultimately, whether a system is worth it depends on your personal preferences, the value of the assets you wish to protect, and your overall safety concerns.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.
