"What a fantastic experience! We hired Jaigo Construction to lay some new brick, repair some old brick, and do lots of tuck pointing. We couldn't be happier with both the quality of their work and their fair price. Amazing attention to detail! They made sure to tint the new mortar so that it matched the old mortar, they fixed things we didn't even know needed fixing, they made repairs that went beyond the scope of their estimate—yet they didn't charge us a penny more. Jaigo Construction worked so hard to match the brick on our 60-year-old house and did a fantastic job with that, finding great brick from half-way across the country. The workers were prompt and polite. And after all the work was done, Jaigo cleaned up so thoroughly, no one could have guessed they were here. Finally, Jaigo's estimate was considerably less than those we received from other reputable masonry companies. If this sounds like a rave review, it is. We couldn't be happier with Jaigo Construction!"

"The men came out right on time and started to work. My house is setting on 14ft of fill! They dug five holes next to the foundation. They had to jack hammer for two days through a lot of rock until they got to the basement footer. Deshon O, Jovann J and Kyle H were the team ready for the task. Iâ m really impressed with the hard work and the team tasked with making my foundation solid again. Foundation Recovery Systems was right priced and reliable. If I had known it was such a reasonable cost Iâ d have had it done years ago. Iâ ll be recommending them!"

"Thrasher did a great job. The foreman was knowledgeable and he explained what was going to be done. We were allowed to watch the process. They leveled the front step and the sidewalk by drilling holes in the concrete and pumping foam under them until everything was level. They caulked everything when they were done and cleaned up the area. The entrance to our home looks so much better. It was well worth the money."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to remove a hanging tree branch tangled in power lines and while they were there to get the debris pile out of my yard. They had a low bid and they were able to get to me the same day! They told me they also do landscaping. I’ll probably be hiring them again in the future. Oh, and they didn’t just get the debris pile, they raked all the sticks up from the whole yard!"

"Elliott review the area and let us know the plan for the projects before starting and they kept us updated with changes and gave us best option for the projects as needed. The whole whole team was great. We had three parts the the projects. Ron and his team were very professional with the foundation lift. Ian and his team were professional and productive. John and Floyd have good communication and understand the projects and gave us another great option. My mother was very impress with John and Floyd's workmanship."

"They went above and beyond for the problems they encountered. The only complaint we have is the way they left the concrete in the basement. Just used too much concrete and left a ridge."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

You can purchase from many brick manufacturers and distributors via their websites, where you can also get estimates based on the quantity you need. You’ll find bricks at your local home improvement stores as well, though they won’t have as much of a variety to choose from. As for antique bricks, secondary selling websites like eBay can be a great resource.

Yes! Hot glue is an excellent—and temporary—way to spread holiday cheer with Christmas lights without damaging your brick exterior.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recommends placing a mailbox 6 inches to 8 inches back from the curb. If your lot is unusual, speak with town authorities or the local post office to determine the correct placement.

If your old bricks are in decent condition and you have the space to store them where they’ll be protected from the elements, keeping old bricks is often worthwhile. You’d spend anywhere from $70 to a few hundred dollars to have them removed from your property, in which case you won’t be able to use them for future projects. Holding on to old bricks in good condition means you can use them later for other DIY projects, potentially saving yourself some money on disposal and new materials down the road.
