"Eric did a great job, he is very knowledgeable and efficient. He dug a drain from our driveway that was having erosion problems and installed drainage pipes on the side to fed them to the street storm drain."

"We had Ricky complete many jobs around the house. He repaired and installed trim pieces around the roofing edge, repaired siding, painted from porch posts, installed electrical outlets inside and outside the house and installed additional breakers, along with lights in the garage. All jobs were completed professionally and on time. He cleaned up all job sites when finished. He paid close attention to the quality of work and the craftsmanship was spectacular! We are already talking to him about future jobs around the house"

"It was apparent they were very skilled. They quickly dropped the huge limbs without a scratch on the house, fence or sheds surrounding the tree. They arrived on time and cleaned the area to my satisfaction before leaving. And they were competetively priced! I can't say enough good things about this company."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

A trench that is less than 5 feet deep often doesn't require a protective system. Most residential trenches will not go this deep (the typical residential drainage trench is just 18 inches deep). In the event that an excavator needs to dig more than 5 feet beneath the surface, a protective system is required unless the excavation is in entirely stable rock.

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.

Consultation with the local government helps identify necessary permits, avoid project delays or legal issues, and protect project integrity.
