"They did not clean my vent covers before putting them back on. They bent some of my vents. The did not clean the furnace filter. They ask to use different screws and told me it would not make a difference if I had to replace one. When tried to put a new one on the screws that came with the vent were to small because the ones they used were bigger. I cant move th position on the vent. I feel like the dust is just as much as I had before. He showed me a picture of the vent and said his machine could not get what I was seeing because it was stuck to the vent. REALLY DISAPPOINTED. Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You can clean a dryer vent yourself by unplugging the dryer from your wall outlet, removing your vent pipe from your dryer, removing debris from the pipe and dryer area, and looking at the exterior vent exit for any debris or blockages.

If you're unfamiliar with how vents work, call in a pro for an annual vent cleaning and inspection and for help with how to clean a dryer vent.

Failing to open your flue can lead to serious health hazards if you start a fire because the smoke will back up into your home. Breathing fire smoke, even in relatively small quantities, is bad for human lungs, and smoke can also irritate your nasal passages and eyes. Furthermore, smoke can cause damage to your interior fixtures and furnishings, at the very least leaving an unpleasant smoky smell for a long time. In short: If your flue isn’t open (or you’re not sure if it is or not), don’t start a fire to find out!

To maintain your washer and dryer, regularly clean the lint traps, filters, and vents. Also, check the hoses for wear, avoid overloading the machines, and ensure loads are balanced. These practices help optimize performance, prevent future issues, and extend the lifespan of your appliances.

Yes, you can snake a roof vent. This is one of the best ways to clear a problematic clog in a plumbing vent. You can either snake the vent by climbing on the roof and sending the plumber’s snake or auger directly down the vent opening, or you can cut a hole in the vent from inside the attic and snake it from there.

The average cost of a dryer vent ranges from $100 to $300 for the various models, but that price doesn’t include installation. If you're hiring a pro, the labor cost to install a dryer vent will be an additional $20 to $35 per hour. The job takes roughly two to four hours, so that’s an extra $40 to $140 altogether.
