Hi my name is Gavin. I am 19 years old and have already worked multiple different trades and I’ve learned a lot of things from professional contractors. I am now trying to start a business of my own and trying to establish jobs for myself to get this business started. If you’d like to give me the opportunity, it would be a great pleasure and I will do my best to make you happy as I should as an owner of a company I will get fair prices based on my knowledge of doing it and be completely honest with you before doing it. Thank you.

"It went well. Prompt in getting back to me and scheduling. the bathtub and shower look nice. the countertops look good but there is a ridge over where two of the countertop edges were a bit uneven and some irregularities on the finish, but it looks better than the original ones.

"Bryan Ousley was the perfect choice for our ambitious kitchen and breakfast room remodel. After meeting with two other independent contractors and three remodeling companies -- and getting quotes ranging from $20,000 to $80,000 -- we finally found Bryan through a recommendation of a friend. The friend told us two main things about Bryan: He was obsessed with cleanliness and leaving a clean worksite at the end of the day, and he gave his full attention to a job once he got started. We selected Bryan because, although he was not the cheapest option, he seemed like the right fit for us. We had a clear idea of what we wanted and he had a clear idea of how to get it done. He was dependable and a clear communicator, providing accurate schedules for himself and the other independent contractors that he hired. We had several additional projects that we chose to include in the remodel along the way, which he estimated and worked into the production schedule without complaint. Bryan Ousley will be our first choice for any future remodeling projects."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Most recycled glass countertops are nonporous, so they don’t require sealant. There is, however, one major exception. If your recycled glass countertop contains a cement binder, it’ll require an additional layer of protection. Seal these countertops once or twice a year. Use a concrete sealant and finish it with a food-safe wax for a gorgeous and shiny finish. Otherwise, just clean the countertop regularly and always use a cutting board.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

Butcher block countertops typically last around 20 years, and sometimes longer, with proper maintenance. This lifespan is comparable to granite and longer than laminate. Key maintenance tasks include regular cleaning after every use and resealing, ideally once a month. You can also sand and resurface the countertops to remove imperfections like deep scratches, stains, dings, and scorch marks. The longevity is also affected by the thickness of the wood strips used in its construction; thicker strips are generally more durable.

Here are some things to avoid to help protect, maintain, and care for laminate countertops. Do not put hot pans or appliances directly onto the countertops because they can scorch the surface. Always use trivets and hot pads. Avoid using harsh, abrasive cleaning products and steel wool. Opt for hot, soapy water and a soft microfiber cloth instead.

A minimum overhang of 10 to 12 inches is generally recommended for countertop or island seating to provide enough legroom. For increased comfort, an overhang of 15 to 18 inches is ideal, allowing for more space and a relaxed experience. However, a 10-inch overhang can be sufficient in certain situations, such as for bar-height countertops, when using small stools, or in smaller kitchens where space is limited. Taller countertops may also require less overhang than shorter ones. Ultimately, you should consider your specific needs for legroom and measure to ensure the overhang fits comfortably within your kitchen's layout.
