"He was extremely timely. Got the job done quickly and did an excellent job. He added gravel to our driveway and installed a French drain. We are very pleased with the results. He was also priced reasonably."

"Taylor Luebbering had the job done in one day. He leveled the ground next to our home and down to the edge of our driveway. Mr. Luebbering then had 2 loads of white rock delivered which he then smoothed out as this is fir our travel trailer. Mr. Luebbering also put rock if front of our home and rerocked our driveway. I would DEFINITELY recommend Luebbering Construction to anyone who wants yard work done as he is most reasonable with his price and very prompt in getting the job done to the customers satisfaction!!! I would give Luebbering Construction 10 Stars!!!"

Excavating questions, answered by experts

You must decide how to handle the native clay soil removed during excavating, whether you keep it for backfill or haul it away. Homeowners also need to disclose private utility lines and direct the routing around them. Check with your HOA for specific neighborhood approvals. Finally, you must sign the necessary land disturbance applications and determine whether to connect to municipal sewer lines in Columbia.

Helpful?

Install temporary fencing or barrier tape around the entire perimeter to keep children and pets away from open trenches. Columbia requires strict site security to prevent accidents and limit your liability. Schedule active excavating during school hours when children are away. Always cover open holes overnight to protect curious kids, pets, and local MO wildlife from unexpected trench wall collapses in the heavy clay soil.

Helpful?

Start by contacting Missouri 811 at least three days before your project begins to mark buried utility lines. Secure any required land disturbance permits through the city. Schedule excavating for late spring or early fall to avoid heavy seasonal rains and winter ground frost. Working around the local clay-heavy soils in MO during these dry windows prevents unstable trenches and delays.

Helpful?

Keep silt fencing and sediment barriers on site to manage erosion in Columbia’s clay-based soils. Have a trench pump ready to clear water quickly during unpredictable spring storms. Keep heavy-duty tarps or plastic sheeting available to cover open trenches and prevent wall collapses when it rains. Maintain utility marking flags and paint to keep underground lines clearly visible throughout the entire excavating process.

Helpful?

Use crushed limestone or gravel as granular fill to improve drainage and prevent settlement in the heavy native clay. MO stormwater rules require strict erosion control, so keep silt fences, straw wattles, and erosion control blankets on hand. Install perforated drain tiles or aggregate to manage the heavy annual rainfall. These materials ensure your excavating work remains stable and compliant with local regulations.
