"Dan of Joyce Family Landscaping proved to be a professional from the initial bid on the scope of work through the completion of care for existing planting beds and the installation of new plants and mulch. The work was scheduled promptly and done precisely as scheduled. Dan was informative and unfailingly courteous. He delivered a great product for a very reasonable price. We will certainly use this company again and recommend it to our neighbors."

"Very pleased with this contractor and the cost and quality of their work. Upgraded my panel to 200 Amp service, split an overloaded circuit, and ran a line set for an HVAC project. Max and his team are real pros. The cost estimate was fair and accurate. After initial review of the project, we made a few changes on job day, and these were accomplished with zero problems. Their coordination with the electric co-op was also flawless and the job was accomplished on time and within the cost estimate. They even gave me a $100 credit for the removed 100 Amp panel. I plan to hire them again to wire an existing out building on my property. If you need electrical work, call them!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Generally, you do not have the right to take fruit from a neighbor's tree, even if the branches overhang your property. The fruit is considered the property of the tree's owner. While you may have the right to trim branches that cross into your yard, the fruit on them typically still belongs to your neighbor. However, laws can vary by state and municipality. In some areas, branches that extend into your yard or trees that straddle a property line may entitle you to some of the fruit. The best course of action is to speak with your neighbor, as they may be happy to share. If a conversation is not possible, check your local regulations before picking any fruit.

Surface-level tree roots might only pose a small threat, such as being a tripping hazard or obstacle when you mow your lawn. But if mature tree roots start growing in the direction of your home’s foundation or plumbing system, it could be a real problem. Cutting small tree roots out before they grow too large can keep your home safe without removing the whole tree.

The amount of time it takes for a tree trunk to rot depends on several factors, including the tree’s size, species, and environmental conditions. It can take anywhere from a few years to several decades for a tree’s trunk to rot. A tree stump, on the other hand, can take up to 10 years to disappear after it’s decayed naturally.

A dead tree should always be cut down, because it could fall and cause injuries or damage, and it can also attract insects like carpenter ants. A tree that’s diseased beyond repair should also be cut down, but it’s not always easy for a homeowner to tell. Signs of disease include dying branches, a hollow trunk, leaning, and discolored or missing leaves, but your best bet is to hire a local arborist who can evaluate the tree and tell you if it can be saved or should be cut down.

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.
