"Price quoted was double that of local competitors. That said, he was driving 30 miles to do the job, was very knowledgeable and professional, with great attention to detail. If there's any problem with my selected contractor, Ritzco Tree Care will get the job in spite of the price. All local tree services' prices were in the same ball park, about half of Ritzco. That might just be Waynesville contractors trying to keep Rolla contractors away. Ritzco's price was very close to what I expected for a licensed, insured, certified trees service employing at least one arborist. If that proves to not be true, as mentioned, I'll cancel the local contract and move to Ritzco."

"The team was great to work with and completely understood what I wanted. They went above and beyond to make sure I was happy and I absolutely am. Watching them cut the tree down was really neat and they did it so I could use some of the pieces. They answered all my questions and gave me a chance to choose items. It was great to find landscaping, tree service, and lawn care all in one company plus the also have a monthly up-keep service. As great as they are, the most impressive thing was their work ethic, speed at which they completed the project, and their willingness to push long hours to make sure they completed when promised. Work with them if you can!"

"Trees, house, garages, outbuildings, and electric lines on one "tight" acre setting on a steep hillside. Hired them for one job because it was cheaper than I expected; then I hired them to remove more trees on the upper area of my acre...very hard work, dangerous, and it can get expensive...but I was very glad to get it done. They did a good job."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

Maple trees start the growing season by developing small groups of red flowers where the tree's fruit, the samaras, will appear in the coming weeks. Later in spring, the samaras, which many call whirlybirds or similar names, develop into single-winged seed carriers that spin when falling or drifting in the wind.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.

The best pro to hire for spraying trees is a tree maintenance specialist. These pros are well-versed in selecting the right spray treatment and applying it properly to ensure there’s no collateral damage to the tree or surrounding landscape. Many tree maintenance services employ certified arborists, but for these routine visits, the extra investment usually isn’t necessary.

There are a few instances in which removing a tree is the best option. You might do this if the tree looks to be a major danger—potentially falling onto your home, your car, or other parts of your property—or it’s diseased beyond repair. A tree that is growing too close to your house might need to be removed to prevent mold growth.
