"We bought our new home in Kirkwood knowing that the yard was a mess--multiple trees (red bud, magnolias, red oaks, persimmon) had been neglected for a long time and needed a lot of thinning and deadwooding. Plus we had a large area (probably 35' x 10') of nightmare that needed to be cleared out--trees and shrubs overgrown with a gigantic hyacinth vine choking everything. We asked our neighbors who they used because their yard is gorgeous, trees are beautifully trimmed -- they recommended MIke Baumann. We scheduled with him and after his giving us a very fair bid, had him start on the yard. He showed up early with a full crew and large equipment--there was no messing around, had his guys in the trees right away. The job took 6 hours or so, and they went full blast the whole time. When they left, the yard was cleaned of all debris, the grove of hyacinth overgrowth was totally bare (fantastic!). We had a few stumps which were left behind, and MIke came out the following day to grind those down to below grade. Overall we were very impressed with Mike and his crew--professional, timely, hard working. I have given his name to a friend who is looking for someone to help with their HOA at their condo complex, as I think he'd do an amazing job. We've had several compliments on the trees since the work, and one person who is an arborist said that the job done was top notch. We will definitely work with Mike in the future! "

Yes, carefully prune back dead branches—don’t wait for pruning season. This helps keep your maple tree healthy and also helps prevent large branches from falling unexpectedly. Don’t seal the cut branch—trees can naturally take care of these wounds—but be sure to remove any source of fungus or pest infestation to help save the tree.
There are a few general rules to follow that will help you prune your trees correctly. One of the most important rules is to prune during the correct season for the type of tree you have. Typically, pruning should be during late winter. For younger trees, you should not remove more than a ⅓ of the tree's crown when pruning. Also, remember to remove dead and diseased branches first, then proceed with pruning the rest of the tree.
The best time to prune Japanese flowering cherry trees depends on where you live and the type of flowering cherry tree. Some trees benefit from being pruned toward the end of winter or early spring, after the last freeze. Meanwhile, other trees do well after blooming, in late spring or early summer. Avoid pruning your flowering cherry tree in the early winter, as this encourages open wounds that can lead to infections or infestations.
You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.
Most tree surgeons cost around $100 per hour or between $70 and $200 per hour for their services. You might get flat fees for more straightforward services, like a tree assessment, tree removal, stump grinding, and one-off treatments, but many times, treatments for tree diseases or pests will be charged based on an hourly rate or a per-visit rate. Since the cost of a tree surgeon can vary widely, it’s best to speak with an arborist near you to get an idea of what your particular issue will cost to correct.
