"Pre buy inspection Sam was very thorough. He discovered mold in the house. Also discovered multiple window leaks broken appliances, lack of insulation broken exterior doors. He could not get underneath the house so he sent his high tech robot underneath the house with camera to check everything. As a result I did not but the lemon of a house saving me thousands of dollars in repairs. Thank you Sam very professional and knowledgeable Job. I would with out a doubt hire him again."

"Troy Galloway did an awesome job inspecting our new home. He provided us with a very thorough report and was even available for multiple follow-up questions. On top of that, he was by far the most affordable of the quotes I received. He was such a pleasure to deal with throughout the entire process. Highly recommend."

Small jobs welcome

"Fantastic experience. Flexible with scheduling. Thorough inspection and very informative - Jacob is very knowledgeable about historic brick homes in the area. My home was drastically renovated prior to me purchasing and I had always had some concerns about the structure. Some recent anomalies made me decide to hire an engineer to inspect. I know have piece of mind and documented confirmation that the home is structurally sound. Pricing was very reasonable - just an awesome interaction overall."

"The gentleman seemed more interested in the hail damage and me getting an insurance inspection to verify damage so he could replace the roof. No repairs, no inside look for leaks, no pictures of damage with summary report In other words, they did not provide what was offered"

"Jeff was fantastic to work with. I had a very tight deadline to meet, and I went with Jeff from the August Group because he said he would meet the tight deadline. He met the deadline with time to spare, and wrote an extremely comprehensive and accurate appraisal. I could not be happier. I will use the August Group for any and all appraisals I need done on my properties in the future."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Tom came by to evaluate a sagging ceiling and mortar break in our chimney. He was able to determine that the problem is not structural, but a result of water damage from a leak in the roof. He also inspected other parts of our home where we had questions and provided clear diagnoses and recommendations for addressing the problems. Throughout the inspection he was friendly, professional, and explained his observations in a way that was easy to understand."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

You can determine if your ductwork needs rerouting by looking for common signs of issues. Uneven heating or cooling in different areas of your home, unusual noises from the ducts, and a noticeable increase in energy bills may all indicate problems with your duct system. Additionally, if you've recently renovated or there are structural changes in your home, it's a good idea to assess whether your current ductwork layout is still efficient.

Repiping a house is a worthy investment in several scenarios. Key indicators that it's time to repipe include having pipes that are over 50 years old, experiencing frequent leaks and repairs, or noticing signs of corrosion and low water quality. It is especially important to replace pipes made from certain materials; lead pipes can cause serious health issues, galvanized steel can lead to rusty water, and polybutylene pipes can leach chemicals into your water supply.

Investing in new plumbing can prevent costly problems like water damage and mold growth. New pipes can last anywhere from 50 to 100 years, saving you money on future repairs and high water bills. Repiping can also increase your home's overall value and improve efficiency, for example, by using PEX pipes for lines that don't carry hot water. The cost to repipe a house typically ranges from $1,500 to $15,000.

You can check your home's humidity in a few ways. A simple option is to use a hygrometer, which you can find at a hardware or big box store. Your smartphone may also have an app that can measure humidity. Modern thermostats, particularly smart thermostats, are also able to measure humidity levels.

It is generally not safe to live in a house with smoke damage, as even minor damage can pose long-term health hazards and structural risks. While it might seem safe temporarily depending on the severity, you should relocate if there is major damage or visible soot. Smoke smells and residue contain dangerous particulates and chemical compounds, including carcinogens, that are hazardous to breathe and can cause respiratory issues. These signs of damage are not always visible but can have dangerous short-term and long-term effects on your health, belongings, and your home's structural materials. You should not stay in the house until a trained professional from a smoke remediation or restoration company has assessed the damage and determined it is safe to return. Your insurance company may cover the cost of alternative housing while the professional work is completed.

Do a little background research on a few certified HVAC companies before choosing the best one for your job. Look for things like how long the company has been in business, and check their online customer reviews.

When choosing an inspector, also ask to see a sample inspection report. A professional inspection report should detail all the areas and components of an HVAC system, provide findings, and include any recommendations for repairs. Finally, find a contractor you’ll feel comfortable with who can address any questions or concerns you may have after the inspection.
