"Our old 1919 house needed more than a simple face lift. We got a couple of estimates, and Modern Exteriors came in several thousand dollars lower. Scott seemed knowledgeable and easy to work with, so we hired them. Our old house was leaky, so the sandblasting created lots of dust inside the house despite their best efforts to seal it. The only other hang up was the discovery of rotten studs underneath the old stucco. Scott connected us with carpenters who were able to expedite the repair, and we're happy with the finished exterior."

"We are actually having a new roof put on. But we are definitely planning a full residing, with soffit, facia, and gutters a little later. Raul was great! Super friendly, explained everything all the way down to how the warranty works between different siding options. We would have signed right then if we had the extra funds set aside. He even gave us his number to contact for sale completion. All in all was a fantastic experience!"

"John was awesome! He was very prompt and friendly. It took him longer than he expected but he didn't complain. The plaster on the inside and stucco on the outside look like it was always there. I would hire again for other projects."

"Absolutely excellent work to Felipe and his crew. I had two floors of my office painted that we are restoring by two different professional painters. I would 100% hire Felipe again and I have several times. More than 3 of my employees have now hired him to paint their houses since. We’ve had probably 20+ compliments on our office since. Excellent work!"

Stucco questions, answered by experts

The best adhesive that works on stucco is usually a product specified for use on stucco or concrete surfaces. The adhesive will need to be strong to grip the stucco, but should also wipe away clean when used in a temporary application. You can also consider using super glue or hot glue on stucco.

The length of time shouldn’t matter much if you stick with lightweight Christmas lights and similar decorations. Those shouldn’t pose risks to your stucco. You should avoid attaching anything to your stucco that could fall because it’s too heavy, which may take part of the stucco with it. Some methods, like using double-sided tape or adhesive hooks, will naturally wear out over time and lead to falling lights, so don’t expect to leave these lights up year-round.

The best exterior paint finish for stucco is a flat or low-gloss finish. A high-gloss finish will show imperfections in the stucco and give it a candy-coated look that many homeowners don’t like. The best types of exterior paint to use on stucco are acrylic, masonry, and elastomeric. However, acrylic is recommended because it is both durable and breathable.

Masonry screws are the best option to be used on stucco. They’re thicker and made to penetrate harder surfaces like concrete and cinder blocks. Fluted masonry screws work the best because they create a stronger grasp thanks to the lines on their shafts. If you’re working on exterior stucco, use galvanized screws to prevent corrosion.

A standard drill will work just fine if you’re drilling small holes, and only a few of them. But anything with a diameter larger than 3/8 inch is best done with a hammer drill, since it is stronger, faster, and also makes your drill bits last longer. While you don’t absolutely need a hammer drill for stucco, it is a worthy investment if you think you might drill more holes down the road.
