"Had a pipe burst in ceiling and caused Sheetrock damage. MJQ painting was hired to repair. They did an awesome job and matched the repair to the rest of the ceiling. Mark was great to work with and Milton was exceptional at doing the repair."

"I am extremely pleased with the work done by Jude and his company, Beautiful Things Drywall, LLC. His cost estimate for our project came in more than 30% lower than other proposals. He was prompt in arriving to begin the project, and completed it over the span of two days, as promised. His work is top-notch, and he did a good job with clean-up afterwards. A few days later, we asked him to return to skim mud over the air bubbles that appeared after sanding, which he did the same day that we contacted him. He's been in the Drywall business for 18 years, and the high quality of his work reflects this. He will certainly be my first call if I ever need additional drywall work done on my home."

"My husband and I were looking for a painter who was personable as well as professional. We found this in Dennis. Dennis worked with my husband and I on finding the right colors for our house from the start. He definitely wanted the house to look sharp. We felt confident that he was trying to make sure we were getting what we wanted while providing his own observations and expertise. In the end, we picked very unique colors and we couldn't be happier. This job lasted a lot longer than expected, because of the poor spring we had, but Dennis and his crew worked hard. They made sure to clean up each day when they finished, too. They eventually came back in early fall to finish our back door."

"SWL Construction completed the drywall taping and mudding on time and the results look great! The finish they provided to the ceiling also looks great. They kept the dust and grime contained and thoroughly cleaned up after the job. We liked the work so much we asked them to prime and paint for us too. They have very reasonable pricing and are very responsive and accommodating."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

If your premixed drywall mud is dried out or has begun to set in the bucket, you may be able to revive it by adding warm water and stirring. However, the first and most important step is to scrape off any hard, dried bits of drywall that may have accumulated toward the top of the container and throw them away because they will not easily reconstitute back into the drywall mud mix.

Yes, you can hammer a nail into a wall stud. But before you do, it’s important to confirm that you’re actually nailing into a stud—and not wiring, pipes, or ductwork. To check, find a few more studs in the wall, then measure to make sure they’re either 16 or 24 inches apart.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.

While certain types of textured walls can seem dated (looking at you, popcorn), textured walls are a common sight in both older and more modern homes. The main reason textured walls may be here to stay is that they are an excellent way to hide minor imperfections on a wall and give it a finished appearance. Some homeowners think a coat of paint on drywall is a bit industrial-looking. However, that look works perfectly in modern home design
