Small jobs welcome

"Other contractors hardly call back especially for small jobs, but Twin City Tiling called right away and came out to view and quote the work. The small job was quickly scheduled and is now done. Looks nice!"

"Had a small patch of drywall which needed to be replaced. Ivan called, scheduled a visit, and provided a quote all in the same day I listed the project. One of his workers, Ricky was able to come in and perform the work that same week. Ricky did an excellent job and both he and Ivan were professional and friendly. Will definitely hire them for future projects."

"Hired this company to help update my kitchen cabinets. The owner was very good to work with, very accommodating and the crew were amazing! They kept the areas around them cleaned up and respected the home. The cabinets turned out incredible. Very nice finish, they look like glass they are so perfect! Added 2 rooms to be painted which both were done timely and again clean and professional and last had them update our wood fence. Needed to be pressure washed, stained and sealed. Again a great job done. No complaints. Would highly recommend this company for any needs you are needing around the house. Hard to find professional, clean and all around good people and this company had it all! Will be using them again in the future."

Small jobs welcome

"I am extremely pleased with the work done by Jude and his company, Beautiful Things Drywall, LLC. His cost estimate for our project came in more than 30% lower than other proposals. He was prompt in arriving to begin the project, and completed it over the span of two days, as promised. His work is top-notch, and he did a good job with clean-up afterwards. A few days later, we asked him to return to skim mud over the air bubbles that appeared after sanding, which he did the same day that we contacted him. He's been in the Drywall business for 18 years, and the high quality of his work reflects this. He will certainly be my first call if I ever need additional drywall work done on my home."

"SWL Construction completed the drywall taping and mudding on time and the results look great! The finish they provided to the ceiling also looks great. They kept the dust and grime contained and thoroughly cleaned up after the job. We liked the work so much we asked them to prime and paint for us too. They have very reasonable pricing and are very responsive and accommodating."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Drywall tape is made of paper, while drywall mesh is made of fiberglass or metal. Drywall mesh patches are suitable for repairing small holes in drywall, while paper drywall tape holds a crease better for corners. You need joint compound to adhere drywall tape to the wall, while mesh patches may be self-adhesive.

Furring strips, thin strips of wood or metal, are not always required for ceiling drywall installation. If the ceiling surface is even and in good condition, drywall can be directly attached to the ceiling joists using screws. However, furring strips become essential when dealing with irregular surfaces or when additional insulation or soundproofing is needed. They create a level substrate for attaching the drywall. Ultimately, the decision to use furring strips depends on the condition of the existing ceiling and the specific requirements of the project.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

In most cases, no, you won’t need a permit to replace drywall. If you’re changing the floorplan of your home by adding or removing walls during the drywall project, then you might need a permit, but replacement or repairs usually doesn’t require a permit. Your drywall professional should be able to confirm whether or not a permit is required for your project. If it is, it’s likely to add between $50 and $150 to your total cost. Keep in mind that you will need permits if you plan to install new electrical wiring or plumbing lines behind your new drywall.

Deciding whether to repair or replace drywall can be tricky, but your top considerations should be the extent of the damage and what caused the damage. For instance, if you need to repair a small hole caused by a doorknob that hit the wall, you can safely patch it without a second thought. However, if you have significant drywall damage caused by water damage, it’s best to thoroughly remove the drywall to inspect and repair the pipes behind it before replacing it.
