"Ivan did a variety of projects for me, all of which turned out great. He and his crew were reliable and paid a lot of attention to detail and clean up, and the final result was excellent. Price was reasonable and I wasn't even charged for one repair that turned out much simpler than originally thought. They completed my projects in just a few days. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely call Ivan again."

"A bedroom light-ceiling fan combination was shorting and wired differently than our other room fans.  Previous experiences with Cady Handyman made it an easy decision on whom to call for service.  I was able to a get a repair appointment-- at a time that works for someone with a day job-- within three days of calling.  Though the old amateur wiring job was a mess, Tom thought through the repair and had it done to expectations in reasonable time (including a trip to the hardware store for parts)."

"Fair and Square recently redid the kitchen in my condo. Working with them was great and they navigated the nuances of working with my condo association well. When I met with their designer she assessed the size and shape of my kitchen, then provided a brochure that outlined the costs that fit the kitchen's size and current wiring and plumbing placements. I started off with the assumption that the $34,000 price was the base and all of the features I wanted would cost more. I was pleasantly surprised to find, as she walked me through my options, that all the things I wanted were actually included in that cost - white cabinetry, brazilian cherry floors, cambria tops. I had a good experience using this contractor and would have no problem referring others to them.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

No rules state how much of a load-bearing wall can be removed. Rather, you need to adequately support any area that is removed. Support should always be added to as much wall area is being removed. Failing to support the area properly will result in structural damage.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

A-frame homes are on the smaller side. While there’s no set square footage amount it has to be, it will usually come in around 1,000 square feet or smaller.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.
