Small jobs welcome

"Everything was beyond my expectations. Any questions or concerns were ran past me before making decisions yet, gave his professional opinion on what would work and not work. What would look good or not. And explained why he thought that, which helped me understand more than i bargained for. It made the experience fun and more enjoyable having someone knowledgeable include me in their thought process. Being As I am a complicated person and very picky, I had to put faith into this knowing it would be beautiful and trust the opinion of the person I hired and respect that they included me in MY process also. I explained my vision, colors and thoughts and he worked with me until it was right. Very pleased with the outcome. Highly recommended."

"Had some troubles with scheduling a time for the actual sub contractor to come and do the work. Subcontractor mentioned owner would only let them stay one day and so had to mud and sand in one day. Work was good for time allowed but not the greatest mud job."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

If the bowing basement wall is less than 2 inches, steel or carbon fiber straps are the best solution. For bowing that is more than 2 inches, wall anchors are the most effective. A contractor can help you decide the best method of repair for your home's foundation and also address the root cause of the trouble.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.

Removing a load-bearing wall affects the structural integrity of your home, so you’ll need a permit before starting the work. Building codes vary by municipality, and obtaining a permit and having the work inspected after completion will ensure you’re in compliance with all applicable regulations.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.
