"Beyond the Curb! Did an amazing job on our driveway and on a sidewalk in the backyard. We are very pleased with their work and would recommend them to anyone that needs some concrete work done."

Standard Water Control Systems is committed to excellence in every aspect of our business. We uphold a standard of integrity bound by fairness, honesty and personal responsibility. Our distinction is the quality of service we bring to our customers. Accurate knowledge of our trade combined with ability is what makes us true professionals. Above all, we are watchful of our customers interests, and make their concerns the basis of our business.

"I hired Standard Water Control to install a perimeter drain tile system, based on advertising and a sales pitch claiming it would protect my basement from water issues for the life of the foundation. I approximately $14,000, only to learn the system protects just a one-foot perimeter?water coming up through the floor isn?t covered. This was never disclosed upfront and directly contradicts their marketing. I was told full protection would require tearing out the entire foundation. Moisture continues to enter my basement, creating serious health concerns for a family member with a compromised immune system due to the risk of mold. The company?s advertising is highly misleading and does not reflect the fine print in their warranty. During installation, their truck cracked my driveway and basement walls were damaged. If you?re considering this company, read everything carefully?the actual coverage is far more limited than they suggest. TLDR: deceptive advertising and poor customer service"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar is a mixture of sand and cement that binds materials, such as bricks, stones, and concrete blocks, together. Think of it as the glue that fills in the gaps between bricks and stones, then seals them in place to prevent damage or deterioration. Mortar also helps spread the load across a wall or structure, keeping cracks and shifting at bay.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

A traditional rectangular brick that is used for siding, brick walks, and pathways is 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. If you are shopping for fire bricks, the standard dimension is typically 9 inches long by 4.5 inches wide.

These materials are durable, low-maintenance, and offer excellent insulation and aesthetic appeal.

Yes, as long as the cut is clean and the brick remains structurally sound, you can reuse it. Reusing brick is especially common for landscaping, edging, and small masonry repairs. Just make sure to file down any sharp edges before handling or installing it.
