"We hired Northern Home Maintenance to do a chimney repair. John was very prompt and came and did an estimate the next day when I called and completed the work the following week. I got several bids and Johnâ s bid was very reasonable but we just felt best about his character. The day of the work they were prompt and professional and finished the work in 1 day. They left the work area spotless and the chimney looks fabulous. They matched our Chicago brick perfectly and our old crumbly chimney top looks good as new. We would definitely use Northern Home Maintenance again and highly recommend them to others!"

CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 2\nWE DO NOT SERVICE GAS FIREPLACES\n\nChimney Rebuilds\nWhen deterioration of the chimney reaches the point of no return, the solution is a tear-down and rebuild. A partial chimney rebuild can be done in cases where a portion of the structure is salvageable. All rebuilds include installation of a new concrete chimney crown.\n\nChimney Liners\nChimney liners provide an extra layer of protection between the chimney wall and your home. This additional protection is critical, as defects commonly appear in the chimney wall, beginning a process that gradually erodes the chimney. As the chimney wall gives way to deterioration, the potential arises for the infiltration of smoke and gases into your home, as well as damage

"Joseph and his crew were great. It was a pleasure working with them. My chimney was falling apart and with each rain storm pieces were scattered throughout my yard. The initial inspection of the chimney revealed the chimney was being held up by gravity. Proper maintenance was not done over the years . I am over the moon with the results once Guardian came out and rebuilt the chimney. It looks fantastic. Guardian Chimney was professional, cleaned up after they finished and the workmanship is awesome. Thanks again, great job."

"It went great. Actually I thought my chimney was leaking, but the technician did a little more checking and noticed a slow leak from my hot water heater. I was very happy with the work he did. He gave me lots of information, answered a my questions and left the work area nice and clean."

"Due to a windstorm with high winds, we discovered that our chimney stacks were leaking. Water was dripping down inside our gas fireplaces. Since we had just had our whole roof reshingled also due to the storm, Fireside Hearth and Home Contractor division of Roseville at first attempted to bring out a large truck with a bucket type lift attached to it so that the men could repair the chimney without touching the new shingles. This proved to be impossible for several reasons. Next, two guys and Doug, the head of their Regional Sales Operations Division came out. They very carefully climbed onto our extremely steep roof and took additional ladders up with them. They also carefully installed roof jacks to allow them to get up to the top most part of the roof and thus prop another ladder onto the 10' chimney itself. They then proceeded to check each chimney stack, fix whatever was loose, and seal all components of the stack. They even checked over another nearby stack that was not part of the original problem to determine that that stack was also sealed and properly functioning. They performed highly dangerous work very carefully so as to minimize or eliminate any damage to my new shingles. I was very pleased with the professionalism, the courage, the thoroughness and the willingness of the workers to do the job completely, property and with the least amount of damage. The whole operation took less than 1 1/2 hours. I would highly recommend the crew of three men who did the work on my roof. I was especially impressed that Doug, the head of their Regional Sales Operations Division, came out and personally got up on the roof himself, to make sure that the work was done properly and with a minimum of problems.

While it’s possible to sweep your own chimney, it’s usually not a good idea for two reasons. First, inexperienced DIYers are more likely to miss areas of the chimney, which still leaves the risk of house fire due to the remaining residue. Second, chimney sweeping seems like a simple process, but it’s highly dangerous. Soot and creosote are both carcinogenic and can cause breathing issues and lung damage. If you don’t take the same safety precautions that professionals do, you could be putting yourself at risk of serious bodily harm.
You should plan to ask your chimney sweeper questions about the cleaning process they intend to use, the project timeline, and more to get a sense of which professional is right for the job:
What is your process for cleaning chimneys?
How long will the process take?
Will you protect my floors from soot and debris?
Will you do a chimney inspection, too?
Do you have certification from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) or the National Fire Institute (NFI)?
Will you need access to my roof?
The average cost for a professional chimney cleaning is around $250, but prices range from $130 to $400 or more, depending on a few factors. Some things that have an impact on your total include the size of your chimney, the number of chimneys cleaned, and how accessible the chimneys are.
In some cases, you don’t need to do anything to prepare for chimney sweeping, but professionals always appreciate leaving the area clean and easy to access. As such, it’s a good idea to move fireplace accessories like screens and fire tending tools out of the way, and lay down tarps of drop cloths around your fireplace opening to help keep your floors clean. Laying down a plastic sheet under those cloths or tarps is a good idea if your fireplace is surrounded by carpeting, just to add extra protection. Finally, secure any pets or children away from the work area.
The National Fire Prevention Agency (NFPA) recommends chimney sweeping once per year as a means of avoiding house fires and massive property damage. Over time, creosote and soot build up in your chimney from burning wood and a lack of ventilation. These compounds are both highly flammable, which means a build-up of them inside your chimney puts you at an increased risk of house fire. Chimney sweeping removes any residue and helps reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury from fire.
