Since 1991, Great Plains Windows and Doors has been a partner with Andersen Windows in the Twin Cities Area. Our approach to window and door installation is rooted in doing right for everyone involved and it's our goal to complete each project with delighted homeowners. We've assembled a team of residential window and door experts who will help you determine the needs for your home and offer the best solution possible.

"Our window install did not go as planned, yet they still earn a 5-star review in all areas. Here's why. Once the team began to replace our existing vinyl windows with new Anderson windows, I realized that my visualization of how the interior window finishing would look, versus what Great Plains had in mind for the interior finishing, was not at all what I wanted. I asked that the interior finishing be halted on the job until we could work out a suitable solution. Great Plains had their sales rep, their general manager, and their field technical installer on hand quickly and we effectively worked out a better solution that, even though it required more labor and extra cost, we are 100% happy with in the end. Great Plains listened to our concerns, provided suggestions for solutions, and stayed with us all the way until the job was done to our satisfaction. We give credit to the entire team; from the helpers on the job site, to the installers, to the sales and management team, for providing customer service that sparkles. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others."

My business is owned and operated by a single individual. I only use sub-contractors that I can personally verify that their work is detailed and professional. Hiring an unknown sub is simply out of the question. Customer satisfaction comes second to none and I will strive for every homeowner to be confident that they are receiving top quality craftsmanship and will love the services provided for years to come.

Windows questions, answered by experts

Energy-efficient windows are judged on their performance according to a few different factors, including heat transfer, air leakage, light transference, and condensation resistance. If you're unsure whether a window is energy-efficient, look for an ENERGY STAR® label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). If various products, including windows, meet energy-efficiency standards set by the federal government, the EPA issues this label to help consumers identify energy-efficient products.

If you don't have hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows, boarding up windows before a hurricane is worth it. According to the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, protection is essential for all your home's entry points, including windows, doors, skylights, and garage doors.

When windows break, wind enters your home, creating enough pressure that could cause the weakest part of your to rupture. Often, the weakest part is the roof, which can "pop" off of a home in a hurricane. The simple act of boarding up your windows can protect the structural integrity of your house.

Replacement windows normally don’t come with new sills, as the sill is part of the window frame that the replacement window fits inside. If you’re replacing windows, it’s a good idea to replace the sill, as well, especially since the sill will be fully exposed and easily accessible for replacement.

There are many standard window sizes, and screens are sold in replacement rolls to accommodate those sizes. Some common standard window sizes include 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall, 2 feet wide by 4 feet, 4 inches tall, 2 feet, 8 inches wide by 4 feet tall, and 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall.

Yes, most manufacturers offer warranties for materials and performance. Confirm terms before purchasing.
