"I had a wet basement that had been a problem in my home for years before purchase of my home. The placement of a Sump pump and floor drain tile appears to stop wet foundation walls and floor. The basement now has potential to be nice area of use and living for years ahead. The service is a expensive purchase for homeowner but it is a needed purchase for my home. The finishing job leaves the need with more work if your basement floor was rough from the years of water damage. They did stop any future water damage for my home and it is safe to spend more for more fine finishing. They completed what was contracted."

"My inspector Ian was an extremely polite young man. He was very thorough investigating my foundation and type of basement and working with me. He was able to show me and describe the process used by the company to drain tile my basement. He also gave me options provided by their business and other alternatives. He used visuals and showed me what I need to do to prep for the job. I feel it was a very comprehensive experience and had no questions by time it was done."

"Travis has an amazing work ethic and impeccable attention to detail. When we approached him about removing our underground bomb shelter, he was up front about it being his first time removing one. However, he has experience removing pools so he could directly transfer that knowledge and experience. We were very concerned about potential damage to our home foundation and he took that into account. He was very involved in the planning and design of the project making us feel important and empowered. He even corresponded with us remotely while we were out on vacation to finalize the design of the concrete sidewalk layout and plan sending us pictures realtime. He let us make the decisions that mattered to us and simply executed the work without complaining. I would definitely hire Travis and Trinity to do any concrete and excavation work for us again."

"First I would say setting the appointments was easy. I called on Monday, they had times available on Tuesday. It was very easy. In addition, I was sent an e-mail and called when each guy was on his way. The e-mail contained a picture of the repairman with a bio. I thought that was a great touch. The HVAC guy was great. He was on time, looked at what I was asking, quoted me a price ($120) and completed the work. It took him less than an hour. I thought the price was fair. I would rate the HVAC an A. The Plumber is really why they received an overall grade of a C. The Plumber was a very nice guy, there were no issues there. He arrived within the allotted time. He arrived and I showed him the dishwasher and disposal. Our dishwasher backs up from time to time where there is water sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher after the cycle is done. We explained it doesn't happen often. We also had concerns with garbage disposal. He explained this happens from time to time with all dishwashers and that the disposal was fine (he said it was a top of the line disposal so very quiet - we didn't install the disposal - was there when we bought the house). I then asked him to tighten down a loose shower/bathtub knob. He said he fixed it the best he could, it was still a little loose. Then, after the "work" was complete - he said it was $220. Thank goodness there was a $30 Angie's List coupon! I was shocked, I didn't really know what to say. He never quoted me a price before any "work" was done, he was there for maybe 40 minutes (half of which he was chatting). He basically did nothing to the dishwasher/disposal and he didn't even fully fix the bathtub/shower. Looking back I wish I would have objected more to the price, shame on me! I guess I was in disbelief about the price? I would recommend B & D for HVAC but definitely NOT for plumbing. They are incredibly expensive. FYI, the person that booked the appointment said there was a $50 service fee but that would be a credit for any work done. The repair person was supposed to give a quote before any work was done. I feel somewhat taken advantage of."

"Aurora replaced my concrete driveway (with concrete) in October, 2016. The new driveway has endured two winters so far and it looks just about like the day it was poured. Remember...there are two kinds of concrete, concrete that is cracked and concrete that will crack. That said there is one very small hairline crack and about 12 places where aggregate has popped out. After investigating I concluded that both conditions are common and to be expected. The crew was friendly and didn't mind my questions while they were working. They were VERY efficient and definitely knew what they were doing. Most impressive to me was the way they were able to slope the new driveway away from the house to keep water runoff from draining toward the foundation. The new driveway is 1,325 square feet. All in all Aurora did an excellent job and I highly recommend them. The cost was less than I expected."

"I had a French drain installed in my existing basement to deal with water seepage issues. The job took 2 1/2 days and was challenging due to having to work around footers that supported the stairs. The crew moved through each obstacle with speed and efficiency. I was also impressed by how clean they were. They even put up plastic walls to keep dust out of the rest of the basement. When they left, the floor was probably cleaner than when they arrived! With all the recent rain I can now hear the water trickling from the new drain pipe into my sump pit. Much better than on my floor..."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

The difference between an ejector pump and a sump pump lies in their purpose and design—an ejector pump functions to remove liquid gray water and soft solid sewage waste from your home. If you have a laundry room or bathroom in your basement, an ejector pump for your sewage tank prevents sewage from backing up in your washing machine or bathroom’s drains.

A sump pump is designed to remove excess groundwater that may enter your home, either due to flooding or periods of heavy rain.

The cost to install a new sump pump, including materials and professional labor, typically ranges from $1,000 to $3,000. The average cost is often cited between $1,200 and $2,500. Several factors influence the final price, including the type of pump, the complexity of the drainage system, and the installation location. For instance, installing a sump pump in a basement may cost around $1,200, while a more complex installation in a crawl space can cost an average of $3,900. It is important to hire a licensed professional for the installation to ensure quality work, which can impact the pump's lifespan and warranty. Note that these costs are for a new installation; replacing an existing unit is less expensive, typically costing $308 to $748.

No. Sump pumps have different capacities, which refers to the volume of water that they can remove. They also come in various horsepower ratings, which measure the size of the pump’s motor. For many homes, 1/3 horsepower is enough. But if you live in an area that floods often, you might need a more powerful model.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

Basements with persistent moisture problems or flooding shouldn’t be finished until the moisture issues have been fixed. In addition, if your foundation is cracked, you have unmitigated radon levels, or you have asbestos or lead pipes, remediate the underlying problem before finishing your basement. Turning a basement into living space before fixing these issues can lead to serious health risks or structural damage.
