Charged $1,000 for less than an hour of work with no material. I will NOT hire again.
Response from Mike's Custom Mechanical
"I’m sorry we weren’t able to come to an agreement during our follow-up calls after the service. You had agreed to the terms, both financially and in writing for 3 hours of work and 3 items assessed with one repaired, before we completed the work. We're happy that our efforts helped save you a few thousand dollars in replacement costs for the item we repaired, and we hope that one day you’ll feel the value in the payment made."

There was a plugged basement drain, a new laundry room sink, installed a new faucet and 2 new floor drains. Basement floor has to be ripped up to find collapsed drain. They repaired and cemented the hole and the areas around the new floor drains. Professional to the core by all 3 guys who worked on these items.

Bob did a fantastic job with a quick determination of the issue, he ordered parts and schedule for installation. He gave us solid advise on whether we could safely continue running the air which helped keep us cool that evening. The very next day, Bob arrived and began the install of the new motor. This is when things got hairy. The new motor did not have the mounts needed to match the old motor. He went to the extra trouble of re-installing the old motor, ordered priority delivery of the needed mounting bracket, and scheduled time the next morning (before his normal work day) to finish installing the new motor. He went way beyond expectation. Solid recommendation, and we will be doing business again.

Very well. Mike gave me three estimates within 20 minutes after coming out to service my 20-year-old A/C unit and showing me where the 20-year-old furnace was rusting out. Amanda in the office was quick and knowledgeable, and explained how to set up 18-month interest-free financing. The two young men who took out the old units, installed the new equipment, and tested the operation were in and out in 5 hours, and left no mess behind. $8500.

This is a difficult review to write because it's not going to be nice. We found Mike's Custom Mechanical on Angie's List and made arrangements for a routine furnace inspection. We of course were aware the furnace was 21 years old. The gentleman came at the appointed time, and was polite and pleasant, but we felt when he heard the age of the furnace, he almost knew without seeing it that he would be recommending replacing it. Again, we're aware that it's old. He inspected the furnace and came up to tell us he had 'red flagged' it as being unsafe to run. He turned the furnace off during the coldest several days of November, telling us the heat exchanger was rusted and would expose us to dangerous carbon monoxide. He said he would expedite our names on the list of people with his company who were getting new furnaces, and then recommended furnace and AC replacement options. If memory serves, the furnace and AC he recommended were in the $9000-10,000 range. He said someone from the office would be calling us in the next days to make sure we were ok. That call never came, but when he left we restarted the furnace since it had been operating fine as far as we could tell and our CO monitor didn't show anything. We called an HVAC specialist we have worked with before who is so busy you just simply have to wait for him. He asked us some questions, then came over to take needed measurements. He was able to tell us we were actually OK. We needed to wait for a few weeks; meanwhile we kept a very close eye on our CO monitor because of course we were concerned and we know how dangerous CO is. So, bottom line: there was no rust in the heat exchanger and the furnace was not emitting CO. It was old and we did replace it ( along with the AC, also old). This is the value of Angies List: we can share information. We wish we had had a better experience with this company which was on Angie's List. But when something like this happens, you have to wonder about the safety of really vulnerable people, like the elderly or anyone who would not have the resources we have.

Bob came the day of my request, on time, and replaced a part as I watched, letting me know what he was doing and why - which I liked a lot. Well, for some reason it didn't fix the problem, so he came back out (again, on the day I called), and this time spent quite a while going over what the problem might be (gratis, since the first time didn't fix the issue). Evidently the company doesn't see a lot of my brand of furnace, so he put in a call to the tech team at the furnace company even though he thought he knew the likely fault, which I also appreciated. But the thing I really liked is that he didn't discourage me from buying parts myself and fixing my own furnace, since it was pretty straightforward, and he even briefly gave me a tip on how to do it, saving me lots of money. It turned out that in the course of his diagnosis he apparently jiggled something just right, and it is now running fine, though he didn't know it before he left. Anyway, Bob was very nice, professional, and an all-around good guy, and I would recommend Mike's Custom Mechanical to others.

Everything went very smoothly. They removed my old furnace and installed a new high efficiency model. A few months later when I started using it, it was making a weird noise so I called and they came over the next day and fixed it in minutes. It was just a plug that was left on after installing that needed to be removed.

Extremely well. This was a tough job in that the old air handler was squeezed into not much more than an attic crawl-space. Mike arrived at the appointed hour and worked for over eight hours in probably 100ºF heat. He got us up and running and never complained.

My net bill was $455 for two minor repairs over 1.5 hours, including going to get parts they didn't have. This equates to over $300 per hour. Then the service man told my wife there was a service charge that we had not been informed of, and we refused to pay it. I've hired many plumbers in the past, and at $75/hr, which is typical, this would have been about $100 plus parts. I am shocked that they have no hourly rate, have high flat fees and then ask for unpublished service fees. I can only imagine the older customers that they have pulled this program on. I would never recommend them.
Response from Mike's Custom Mechanical
"Yesterday may have been national hug a plumber day, but here is a prime example of how service industry men and women are not appreciated. When a lawyer tells you they charge $300 an hour nobody bats an eye. That's just what they cost. But when a service professional who has come to your home to fix something of luxury to many people and tells you a price that equates to about $100 an hour and includes parts, the average middle and upper class entitled American looses their mind! First off nobody ever thinks about the cost to keep a company going in any fashion, vehicle loans and maintenance, insurance for the vehicle, gas for the vehicle, insurance for the company and person in your home (in case you decide to be sue happy as most Americans have become) health insurance to keep the service person workable, licenses for every individual plus the company's overall licensing, plus the team of people backing that person up. And that's the bare minimum a company has to pay out as part of your small service call costs. That doesn't include any extra over head costs that any company may have to spend like advertising to show you that we are out there as an option for your needs. If you see us on websites or accreditation sites .. those aren't free to companies on there .. they charge us to make up for not charging you!! So when you ask a professional accredited service company to your home your not just getting that one person there and their one vehicle you are getting a team of people in the background that has spent time and money to get there .. just to be told no .. I can get it cheaper .. then please do us a favor and do your research better and find that cheaper guy who is a one man show who will probably not fix it right the first time and end up costing you more in the long run and won't back his work. Those guys aren't listed on these websites trying to make a proper name for themselves. Lastly no sir you were not charged or even asked to pay a lawyers rate of $300 as you quoted. You were asked to pay a price that did include labor and Parts (plus all of that background stuff that got us there to your place) and you wasted half our day because you like every entitled American wanted something for nothing when we could have been making a living for our families too and a below reasonable market price as it is. And if any plumber were to keep every possible part on their person for every possible job we would run across we would be carting around a 10k sqft warehouse with us. (Who's gonna pay for that?) Most reputable plumbers now are on fixed rate pricing for repairs, and include parts labor and all the additives that go into it. Including when customers reschedule 3 times and the background staff has to coordinate that every time .. how are they getting paid out of your unpaid service call? So in closing please consider what actually goes into getting any service company out to you before making that phone call and then throwing them out of your home because they dared to charge you for what you wanted done."

Excellent, the plumber (Thomas) identified the problem and went to a supplier to get two unusual parts which he installed. All in all he took more time door-to-door than I expected, but charged only for the repair. He was pleasant, efficient and competent. This is a non-union shop.

Chose three dates for the work to be done. Was told they would be calling me. Never did. I left phone messages and emails. No answer. I was ripped off! Now I am trying to get my $$ refunded by Angie's list and they aren't following up.

I bought a $200 credit from Angie's List for $99. Mike's Mechanical never reached out to me in the next week. I began calling them and leaving messages twice a week for about three weeks with no response. I also contacted Angie's List representatives twice a week for a couple of weeks, and all they would do is also leave this company a message on my behalf, with no response. I decided I wanted a refund of the original deal from Angie's List, and that took me contacting them 3 times, at which time I threatened to take this much further and they finally credited me back my $99. I then had the work done in a very timely fashion and with great quality by a plumber I found myself. Two weeks after all of this, a woman from Mike's Mechanical called me to talk about my request (where is the communication between AL and their customers?!?) Needless to say she got an earful before I politely hung up. I will never try to use either Angie's List or this service provider again, and I have been and continue to tell this story to anyone I can.

Wonderful! They first came out to see what was needed for the job. When the work was performed they did an excellent job. The workmanship was first rate. They were professional and friendly. I was surprised at the high cost however, I didn't expect it to be so expensive. Maybe I'm just unaware of the going rates.
