"Lewis Insulation came out for work on my home for ice dam issues. Lewis Insulation was to air seal our attic and add insulation. We decided to move forward. Lewis Insulation allegedly performed the work, but unfortunately the ice dam issues persisted. In short, we flushed thousands down the drain by going with Lewis Insulation. Xcel energy performed a home energy audit for us after Lewis Insulation performed the work. The Xcel home energy audit revealed that air sealing was missed during the air sealing process. After confronting Lewis Insulation, the team claimed some of these areas were inaccessible. This includes our furnace flue, which gives off a ton of heat in the winter. For those who may not be aware, this is egregious because of how much heat comes off that pipe. At no point did Lewis Insulation inform me that they were unable to air seal specific areas, including the flue. Lastly, they failed to insulate our basement rim joists properly. In short, we paid to have the team air seal our home and help with ice dams. They failed to eliminate the ice dams, and Xcel suggested we get our home air sealed again. I cannot recommend this company to anyone."

PVC pipes are more affordable and applicable in most parts of your home’s plumbing system than copper pipes. They also require less maintenance. The only major restriction with PVC pipes is their low heat tolerance. Therefore, they’re not your best option for supplying hot water from the water heater throughout your home. PVC pipes are also larger in diameter, so they may not fit into certain spaces in your home.

You can and should use a hose to fill a hot tub. There shouldn’t be anything special about the hose other than it shouldn’t be damaged. Kinks or leaks could slow down the filling process. Attach the hose to the nearest spigot and get the water flowing.

Start by unscrewing the overflow valve, which is located on the wall of your tub between the floor drain and the tub spout. Gently insert a plumbing snake down into the pipe, move it back and forth, and pull it out. Remove any hair, debris, and soap scum that comes out with it. Repeat the process until the snake comes out clean, and then reinstall the cap on your overflow valve.

No, putting new plumber’s tape over old plumber’s tape is not recommended. The old tape connection may not be completely adhered and could cause a leak. 

Instead, remove the old tape completely, clean off the pipe threads with a clean rag and wire brush if needed, then apply new plumber’s tape to make your connection.

How long it takes for a pipe to freeze depends on the outdoor temperature, the level of preventative measures taken, and how long the outdoor temperature stays below freezing. With this in mind, expect most pipes to freeze within six to eight hours. Uninsulated exterior pipes can freeze in under six hours if the temperature is below 20 degrees. It takes at least 12 hours for unprotected pipes to freeze at 32 degrees.
