"It went extremely well; better than my expectations since I have a tendency to be skeptical about making sizable investments regarding equipment with which I am not fully familiar. Eric actually showed me what was wrong. He tested my water with a "portable lab" system, but then we went down to the basement and he literally took my softer apart and showed me the condition of the media beads - which instead of being a golden color, were coated black. He also showed me that about two cubic feet of media was missing! He checked the setting of the unit, and showed what they were versus what they should have been. Finally he showed me how difficult it was to turn the control dial which a small motor must do to cycle the unit through the flushing cycle. By the end of his visit, I was convinced I had a real problem. Eric gave me all the options, including the features and benefits of each. Even though he said I could have the unit reconditioned and have a warranty (shorter than on a new unit) on its performance, I opted for a new unit with the longer warranty and electricity free operation."

"Diagnosed the issue as electrical. Will need to get electrician in to see where the problem is between the fuse box and the dishwasher."

"Paul showed up about 2 hrs. a head of schedule. He called but I had not gotten to my voicemail yet. I didn't mind him showing up early but I could see how this might bother other people if they didn't give him the ok to come early. He had an apprentice with him (name I cannot remember). I showed him what was needed. We sat down and he went over that he would be giving my house an electric "checkup" first then within that, come up with an estimate for the actual work I called them for. The thing that bothered me is that him and the apprentice, after walking around the house for the electrical checkup, both sat at my kitchen table as I was in my office within ear shot of them. I heard them random talking (not talking about the actual work because there was laughing) for about 20-30 minutes, like they were at their own home visiting. Finally after I walked into the kitchen a couple times, Paul came and we did a walk through on what he found in the electrical checkup and the actual estimate for the work I originally called them out for. Then we sat down and he showed me the 3 estimates he came up with. For the electrical checkup, $11,700+, then another estimate of $4800+ (partial work that was listed for the $11,700 estimate) then the actual estimate for what I wanted done $198. Not to hard of which one I went with. I said the last estimate and they did the work right away. Now the next thing has nothing to do with the work done or the workers themselves, but when it came to pay them I had to roll my eyes at the company, Boy's Airtech, and how the try and make it look like you are getting a deal when you are not. Now get this, I am a Comfort Club Member so with that I get a 10% discount on work, plus if I have work done, I don't have to pay the service call of $79 (but understand, I pay $20/month for the membership). So Paul went over the bill with me and with the 10% discount I got $19.80 cents off of the bill......but wait, there is a charge called a TFS charge on the bill that is $14.75. I asked Paul what that was and he really wasn't sure, he indicated it was like a fuel charge or something like that. I looked all over the invoice paper, back and front to see if they say what the TFS charge was, there was none. Soooo...that "10%" discount now just became only a $5.05 discount. The total work they did was disconnect the electrical cord from the fireplace insert, thread it through the hole in the fireplace that was already there from the insert that was removed already and reconnect the cord to the fireplace insert. About 20-25 minutes of work. Even though I checked that I would rehire them again....I wanted to leave that blank but it would not let me so I just checked yes because I am a member, but I am really not sure."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Pine River, letting snow accumulate around outdoor outlets, overusing space heaters on the same circuit, or running extension cords through damp garages can all cause premature electrical wear. Neglecting to test GFCI outlets in cabins, ignoring signs of rodent activity in barns, or failing to disconnect seasonal dock power before winter freeze are common local habits that lead to costly repairs and safety risks.

Helpful?

For Pine River homeowners, keep a non-contact voltage tester, GFCI tester, and digital multimeter for routine electrical safety checks. Stock weather-resistant wire connectors, cold-rated electrical tape, and heavy-duty outdoor extension cords for harsh winters. A portable generator and surge protectors are useful during frequent power outages. Include insulated hand tools and replacement GFCI outlets to handle Pine River’s seasonal maintenance needs efficiently.

Helpful?

In Pine River, be wary of quotes that are unusually low, lack a clear breakdown of labor and materials, or omit permit fee information. Avoid professionals who refuse to provide written estimates, proof of insurance, or local references. High-pressure sales tactics or unsolicited visits are uncommon in Pine River and may signal unreliable service. Always verify credentials and confirm the pro’s familiarity with local codes.

Helpful?

When hiring electrical pros in Pine River, confirm they have experience with rural properties and lake homes, as these often have unique electrical layouts. Ask if they’re familiar with Pine River’s specific weather challenges and can provide recent, local references. Ensure they hold proper insurance, understand local permit requirements, and are willing to discuss how they address seasonal electrical safety unique to Pine River homes.

Helpful?

In Pine River, create a seasonal electrical inspection checklist tailored to local weather. Each spring, inspect outdoor outlets and wiring for frost or rodent damage. In summer, test outdoor lighting and ensure air conditioning circuits are secure. Fall is ideal for preparing heating systems and checking generator readiness. During winter, monitor for overloaded panels and ice buildup near exterior electrical boxes, which are common issues in Pine River’s climate.
