"Removed five trees they were very quick and professional. They also removed the stumps. It looks like the trees were never even there. They cleaned up very good after themselves. I would definitely recommend them."

"After posting on Home Advisor for some one remove a pine tree I have a reply from Boyum Tree Services. They came out the same day and said what it would cost to remove it, so I asked it they took down trees also and yes they do. Give the okay to Brain the next day and they were out the following cleaned up the fallen tree and took down the other one. Everything was done and cleaned up with expert care. GREAT jobs guys, I'll highly recommend you to anybody. Thanks You"

"Great guys to work with! They were very respectful, efficient and knew what they were doing. My project changed the landscape of my entire property--very big but necessary tree removal. The project went very well from planning to clean up. This was not the first time I've had them work on my trees; I won't let anyone else touch them!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

Tree experts don’t advise against digging through tree roots, but instead encourage caution and consultation with a local arborist to make sure you don’t damage the tree’s structure or interrupt its water or nutrient intake. An arborist can recommend specific practices when digging and help prune the roots or dig a trench for utilities with a tool that can remove soil without touching the tree’s roots.
