"We had some construction projects completed on our property this fall and in the process, our invisible fence was cut several times. Needless to say, when the electricians left the fence was not functioning...I call Jeff and he came out promptly to repair it. Unfortunately, due to the frozen ground, we weren't able to bury all of it again and a section was damaged by our snow plow once the snow came. Called Jeff again and he was there the next day. So prompt and efficient, they care when our pets are not contained and potentially in danger. The fence is now fixed and our dogs are safe and happy again and free to roam our property! Thank You Jeff, Brian and Dog Guard of Wisconsin! Putting this fence in was the best money we have spent on our dogs!"

Animal Fencing questions, answered by experts

Like many animals, gophers are bothered by strong scents. Peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil,  and coffee grounds can be used as deterrents against these pests. Similarly, you can try planting lavender, rosemary, sage, geraniums, or pine trees, as these plants all have strong smells that can ward away gophers. While it may be less pleasant to work with, coyote urine scares gophers by tricking the pests into thinking your yard is a predator hot spot.

Squirrels are pretty skittish creatures, and they dread the presence of rodent-chasing dogs and cats. Sudden noises and bursts of activity can send them scampering away. Anything with an element of surprise, like motion-detecting lighting, strobe lights, and noisy wind chimes, can unsettle them. Even loud radios and voices can be perceived as threatening and terrifying to these furry critters.

For the most part, goats are friendly and won’t charge at you, but there are exceptions to this rule, as there are with any animal handling practices. Typically, goats don’t attack unless they feel threatened. Avoid cornering or rough handling goats to avoid getting head-butted, bitten, or kicked, and always supervise goats when they’re near children or pets.

Many people only see armadillos at night because the closer the animals are to the city, the more they stay in their burrows during the day to avoid noise. More rural armadillos are more likely to come out during the day when they can warm up in the sunlight and avoid predation by owls and cougars.

Many different types of animals like to build nests in attics. The types may vary depending on your home’s condition and location and you can prevent them by sealing off entry points and eliminating food sources. The most common critters that like to build nests in your attic include:

  • Raccoons

  • Bats

  • Squirrels

  • Mice

  • Rats
