"Despite examining it at the time of the estimate and planning to install a new sweep (with the expectation that it would wear out over time due to the odd angle of the door), they were, in fact, unable to make a new sweep fit. They did create a custom bracket and installed it to the fixed panel, securing it in place. I am disappointed with the sweep situation."

"Project of demo old deck and build a new to the same plan did not get started until late November. There were periodic weeks during the winter that did not allow for any work. The company owner/manager(Ivan) kept us informed of the status. The quality of workmanship was very good and followed the city inspection. Project that was over 15K came in at the bid price."

"It was great from start to finish.  I called Monday afternoon and was connected to a voice message.  Gregg, the owner/installer called back within 15 minutes.  We discussed repair or replace and contacting the insurance company.  Gregg gave me the direct number for the insurance company's windshield repair specialists.  Gregg then scheduled the work for the next morning.  He arrived at the appointed time and quickly replaced the damaged windshield.

"Great.  Harmon Glass came to my place of employment and replaced my cracked windshield on the date and time they said they would.  I have had no problems with the newly replaced windshield.

"I had purchased a deal on Angie's list last fall but early winter got in the way of window cleaning. I called John this spring and he was here the following week.  The windows sparkle. I did not put the screens back on because I wanted to fully appreciate the clean windows for a few days. John is friendly, professional and efficient. I will call him when I next want the windows cleaned.

"They completed work on the schedule agreed to and did an excellent job. Finding a company with good experience with installing glass tiles was difficult, but I was glad I choose to have someone who was experienced with glass tiles do the work. By purchasing the grout and doing the sealing myself, I was able to get the original bid reduced."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Although glass block windows are made of multiple layers of thick glass, they can still break. If an individual block shatters, it can be removed and replaced, but this is a job for a window repair professional. The project is often complex and may require breaking the block further for removal. Do not attempt to handle it yourself, as the broken glass can be dangerously sharp. A professional will have the necessary tools and expertise to replace the broken glass block quickly and safely. Before hiring, confirm that the repair pro has experience with this specific type of window.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Their thickness depends on application, but most glass walls are typically 3/8 to 3/4 of an inch thick. Although it’s not as common, single panes of glass can also be 1 inch thick.

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.
