Blamed manufacturer for quarantine-related delays, but we verified order and ship dates with the manufacturer. Delays were contractor’s fault. Contractor made repeated draws on labor charges; stopped showing up when draws exceeded contracted labor fee. He collected state sales tax but has no tax permit on file with TX Comptroller’s Office. Posted photos on Facebook of other projects he was doing while he told us he had to quarantine due to COVID exposure. Never finished project; 60 days after bath remodel tear-out started, we hired a plumber and are completing finish work ourselves. If your Corian® countertop begins to appear dull or dirty, or you notice scratches on the surface, you can return it to its original finish while maintaining its look. To do this, repair any scratches with a repair compound and sand the surface after it dries. 

Then, use an orbital sander with either a 100-, 30-, or 15-micron disc and finish with a hand pad (like Scotch-Brite™ 7447 or 7448) or lamb’s wool bonnet and automotive cutting compound for a matte, semi-gloss, or gloss-finish, respectively.

Two alternatives to reglazing are installing a bathtub inlay or a bathtub liner. An inlay is a low-priced mat that adheres to the bottom of a bathtub or shower. It’s useful for sealing minor leaks and concealing damage on the bottom of a tub. On the other hand, a bathtub liner is essentially a protective casing that goes over the entire tub. They are usually custom-fit and cost more than reglazing yet don’t last as long.

You can use other ways to seal the space where your tub and the bathroom tile meet. Using sealant tape, epoxy sealer, and spray foam can be just as effective as caulking your bathtub. When using alternatives to caulk, the one that is best for you depends on your preferences. 

Sealant tape takes less time and effort to use, which is why some homeowners prefer it. Meanwhile, epoxy sealer creates a smooth and glossy finish that can complement your bathroom. Lastly, spray foam is waterproof and can act as insulation for your tub.

It takes about 24 hours for the tub resurfacing smell to go away or the total dry time, although you will notice it the most during the first couple of hours. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or ask your bathtub resurfacing pro how long it takes for the smell to dissipate. 

There are a few signs, both obvious and not so obvious, that it's time to refinish your bathtub. While some of these signs aren't an urgent problem, others could lead to significant damage if left untreated. Signs you should look out for include:

  • Rust stains, which signal the tub's enamel or surface sealer is deteriorating 

  • Small chips, which can grow into larger chunks and can lead to rusting

  • Discoloration, which doesn't lead to a more significant problem but can be unsightly 

  • Dirty surfaces, which means that the tub glaze is breaking down and allowing dirt to seep below the coating
