Established in 1995. Groundworks is a family owned and operated landscaping contractor, based in Hastings, Minnesota, with a reputation for beautiful, long-lasting landscapes and hardscapes.

"Let me start this by saying that I'm a detail oriented guy. I work in the mechanical trades, and I'm very familiar with the practices used by contractors. Both good and bad. With that in mind, I needed to hire someone to redo a very poor landscaping job that I inherited. I looked at a small handful of companies that I knew to have a good reputation. Groundworks is a family operated business. I met initially with Gary, who owns it along with his wife. He provided an initial estimate, and was clear about what would be done. He uses his own employees, no sub-contractors or temporary help. In fact, his son Chris was the crew leader on my project. With more than 20 years of experience, I was in good hands with Chris. The scope of the project was initially smaller than the end result due to the hidden issues that were uncovered when work got under way. Gary and Chris worked with me to correct those problems at a price that was more than fair given the time and effort involved. His crew was polite and wasted no time sitting around despite the brutally hot weather. The end result was beautiful. Do yourself a favor and give them an opportunity to provide an estimate. People like this are few and far between. I won't hesitate to recommend them to family and friends. Charles Rapp Lakeville"

Our plan is to have 20-30 ex-offenders (both full time and part time) on staff by the end of 2016. WFOM will employ people for 24-36 months, and then help them find a career path of their choosing. WFOM is a revolving door employer providing our employees with a mentoring program to help them become good citizens, an employment track record with skills and recommendations assure their next employer of the type of person they are hiring. Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

No one likes running out of materials during a project, so calculating the right amount of gravel needed for your driveway is an absolute must. Multiply your driveway’s length by width by the depth of the gravel (in feet). For gravel depth, convert to a decimal (i.e., 4 inches is 0.33 feet). This will give you the cubic feet of material that you need.

If you’re looking for cubic yards, divide that above number by 27.

If your mulch delivery company or landscaper installs mulch around multiple spots in your yard (especially if they are more complex areas), feel free to tip up to $15 a person. However, there's no need to tip for a standard mulch drop done in your driveway or on a tarp.

Determine whether you have any other heavy, bulky, or oddly-shaped items you’d like to relocate, such as a washing machine or other appliance. Since many professional moving companies may charge minimum fees for their services, you could end up paying the same cost to move a refrigerator as you would to move the fridge and a second or third item.

Grass varieties such as tall fescue, zoysia, Bermuda, Bahia, and centipede grow best in sandy soil. These types of grass are drought resistant, so they help retain water and nutrients more easily. Consult a local lawn care company to determine the best type of grass to plant in your sandy lawn.

Mulch is made from natural materials, which will break down and add nutrients to your soil for better plant and soil health, so removing old mulch is unnecessary before putting down new mulch. However, if you live in a particularly moist area, it’s possible that the old mulch will harbor fungus or mold, which can hurt plant health. If you notice these issues, you might want to consider removing the old mulch first. Otherwise, save time and money by placing new mulch right over the old mulch.
